I would say that is late 70's to early 80's cabinetry. That style of plywood door might even go early than that but it looked like it either had melamine or laminate interiors which I think puts it more 70's time period, plus on camera it looks pretty decent for its age. You couldn't get away with building cabinets like that these days with how crappy even higher end plywood is. What was your question at the end?
@droolbunnyxo9565
5 жыл бұрын
The counter top looks late 70's/early 80's (replaced?) but the black colonial style cabinet hinges say late 50's to mid 60's. I missed the question too. Replay, replay... (Order of demo, to cause least homeowner inconvenience?)
@Mopardude
5 жыл бұрын
@@droolbunnyxo9565 Could possibly be older. I am completely basing that on if the interior is melamine or laminate. Someone could have just painted it white too. Top, sink, and faucet are all way newer than the cabinets in my opinion. I just went and re watched the ending, I think his question was going to be whats for dinner. LOL
@droolbunnyxo9565

@@Mopardude PB&J and Cheez-its, lol... Yes, you might be right. I collect vintage 60's-80's interior design books & see these honey-brown kitchens often. Usu starting in the mid 50's, esp in brick ranch homes ~ plain simple & affordable design. And softer contrast to popular sleek steel cabinets. The faux wood counter laminate here though was more popular in the 70'-80's. Can't remember seeing it earlier but I could be wrong. A few solid fashion color counter laminates (Harvest Gold & Avacado colors, esp.) became trendy in the late 60's-mid 70's. Then a wider color variety of better made stippled & glass-smooth stain/water resistant melamine laminate began to show up in the late 70's thru today. Although, that weird smooth white with gold fleck-speckled countertop stuff with the aluminum edging was very popular in the 50's & 60's. Not sure what that was... Early Formica melamine? 🤔 (Suggest no demo order ~ take a wrecking ball to the place & leave the homeowners a stack of pamphlets re the health benefits of fasting. 🍽️)

Had coved ceilings similar in my first house. Bought in 1990. It was built in '52. Mine had no line around the ceiling. But it had picture rails (molding) on the wall below the cove. So the ceiling, which was painted white, felt like it was much higher than it actually was. Guess the coved ceiling wasn't a big deal in that market at that time. I think we sold the house in 1996 for about 60,000.

RE: End of video Preserving the cove ceiling Can you put a controlled cut line into the wall from the top of the door to the other door on the left? I'm thinking that if mimicking a concrete expansion joint will keep the top of the wall safe while allowing all possible cracking to remain below the cut (joint) line.
@fooplinger

AequitasSaints The old style built-ins could still be done, however most modern kitchen dwellers want adjustability. It would be a worthwhile exercise to see how much the interior carpenter in a new build would charge to build in-place cabinets and have the painters paint them up....it might just be an eye opener for the industry.
