How is the reset capability of the paddle? I own a P2 and I have met a few others that commented on the poor resetting performance on the P2. Is this a better resetting paddle than the P2, or roughly the same?

On paper, I was pretty curious about the P2's, as far as their durable construction, and options to customize. On court I just did not click with the P2's. I hit with them, admittedly not for very long, and moved on, which was due to them not really standing out (one way or another), in terms of performance. Then came the review for the P3's, and I still had the experience of the P2's fresh in my mind, so I did not get overly excited. That said, in about the same amount of time it took me to realize the P2's were not my cup of tea, I knew the P3's were; particularly the compact version. As far as why I like it so much more than the P2, and if I feel the paddle complements the reset portion of my game, this is what I can say: The P3 features a 16mm core, as opposed to the prior model's 14mm, and also feels slightly more spin friendly with the Spintex Surface X. So maybe I am getting longer dwell time on the ball with the thicker core, and thus have good/better control for transitional shots like resets. All in all, my resets, and mid-court game feels effective with the P3. I play with the plug left out, and added lead strips at the bottom of the grooves, with vibration strips towards the top. It now weighs 8.5 oz., is slightly tip light, and honestly my single gripe on the P3's relate to the 4 inch grip diameter. I built it up, but that sort of rounds out the handle shape as a result. Lastly, the longevity of both the paddle itself, and the surface has been great. I have played with paddles that bite the ball like a junk yard dog, but the extreme friction wears off with play. The P3 does not offer that degree of spin, but I would say is almost top tier caliber, and it stays that way. I have been trying to beat the grit off of the paddle for the last several months with zero success. Great question, and I hope I did not put you to sleep with the details. Mark/TP

Is it a control or power paddle? Sorry if i missed that

Great question, and I will have to re-visit our review of P3 Master Athletics paddles to verify whether we directly addressed that rather important aspect (hopefully that is the case). At any rate, the P3 is still my paddle of choice, and I like the P3 XL quite a bit as well. That said, there is decent weight based power in stock form, which can be easily increased using their weight kits, and if you go with the P3 XL, you are definitely getting some length based power along with the weight. However, when it comes to "pop" from their cores, I would say they are lower powered, or more control oriented (not like the pop you get from the Selkirk Power Air's core). In addition, the Master Athletic paddles are not extremely loud at contact of the ball either. Due to their weight and length based power, minus core based liveliness, I would describe both P3's as straddling the middle line of power and control (closer to a Vanguard Control). And although I have played with paddles that were grittier and more spin friendly, when new, the grit level wears down, and thus the spin potential as well. The P3's don't start out with quite as much grit on the surface, but are still very easy to develop spin with, and that has not changed much at all, even after a couple hundred hours of play. Ideally I want a durable paddle that is control oriented enough for me to swing aggressively from the baseline without hitting home runs, along with excellent feel in the mid-court, and near the kitchen. In my experience, this pretty much sums up the Master Athletics P3 series of paddles. Mark/TP

I definitely didn't differentiate in the review, so no apologies needed on your part...great question! I felt like for me the paddles had a good balance between the two which contributed to the "all around playability" but I would say they are more power oriented. William -TP

I don’t want to be a stickler but am forced to ask…William: When serving are you allowed to toss the ball (@2:00 minute mark)? Great review if the paddles by the way.

Hi there and thanks for watching! Are you referring to how I toss the ball before the serve? I watched the clip a few times and I think I'm still within the rules according to the USAPA (4.A.7 volley serve). If I'm understanding the rules correctly, it's more important about where I strike the ball in the volley serve rather than how I toss. That said, I shouldn't be adding any additional spin in my toss though according to the volley serve rule and I think I do an ok job here. I could probably do a better job at reducing the toss though! -William, TP

That's a completely legal serve by USA Pickleball 2024 rules (Volley serve section 4.A.7). It's only the PPA pros new test rule that prohibits tossing the ball. Moreover, he is making contact below his waist, the paddle is below the wrist, and he is contacting the ball on the up-swing.

@@echochapman7657 Thank you for that. Now, I can pushback on some others who complains about my serve (same way).

@@pickleballwarehouse Thank you for the response. I read EchoChapman7657’s response before I noticed yours. I also responded to him. I will be comfortable with my serve (like that of yours) when playing. Enjoyed your contents!
