This video delves into actively searching for potential defects in your opponent's last move and punishing their mistakes. Blunders happen all the time, but it takes a trained eye to quickly spot the opponent's blunders. We go through key questions that will help you identify the opponent's blunders by identifying what has become unprotected as a result of the opponent's move. We also discuss pawn moves and their committal nature.
Strong players not only focus on the threats they face from their opponent's move but also actively search for potential defects behind that move. Dvoretsky said that when you see a strange-looking move, ask yourself what the problem with that move could be. We apply this idea to openings and positional chess as well.
Watching this video won't be enough to solidify this important thought process. That's why I created a Chessable course on this topic. It's a mix of tactical and positional puzzles designed to help turn knowledge into skill. You'll learn to recognize the threats you face, as well as identifying and punishing your opponent's mistakes. This will elevate your chess game and make you a stronger player.
