@@MichaelSasser Ah I see. So usually if you were to add a motion blur layer/title over top, it identify's what's moving quickly in the shot and blurs based on perceived movement. So tracking isn't really needed. You could drag a directional blur on to the shot, adjust the size and feather, and then use keyframes, but that would be too much of a pain.

Hey Nick! You're welcome! I assume you're trying to create a fake shallow depth of field? It's not going to look that great in my opinion, but what you'd do is use a gaussian blur and follow the steps to track it onto your shot, then create a shape mask of the blur and invert it.

The tracking of the scale is definitely strange, I tried that on my own. It's useful for surface-tracking stuff (if you place an image on a wall where you want the image to imitate the x- and y- scaling of the wall) but not so much if a person moves away from the camera and maybe turns a bit. In that case, it would be greate if we could lock the ratio between x and y. Maybe in the next update ;-)

I love how the tracking is locked to the clip used not the object itself so it can shift it around and not have to retract! Heaps of time saved. They definitely need to keep working on this feature. Would love to actually have a tracked mask (without using a plugin). I use it all the time to highlight areas. You're welcome! Hmm could be. Try reanalyzing that section of the footage by using the tracking editor by right clicking the clip. See if that takes care of it.

You're welcome! Totally understood. I have some viewers that want the videos to be quicker and think I speak to slow. I've been trying to find that happy medium, but I realize I can't please everyone. Here's something you could do if you need more time. You can actually slow down the video to half or .75 speed by clicking the gear button in the bottom right of the video. That should help out. I'll do my best to try and keep everything at a good pace, but concise.

@@dylanjohndickerson Thanks for reply Dylan John. I understand. Just 1 last comment for whatever it is worth if I may. I think I would find your video a little easier to follow and understand if you were to just pause for a second when you move on from 1 technical explanation to the next. I enjoy your video and have learned from you. Keep up the good work.

Is there any way to use this tool for locked-on stabilization effects? Or a slow zoom into the tracked object?

Hey! So you’ll need to use Motion to achieve that.

Hi Dylan Maybe you can help me with a tracking related issue I was having on a recent edit. I was trying to track multiple bullet hole elements onto a windshield, in the same clip. The first one would go great, but the second one wouldn’t work. For starters, the grid was an opaque white. And the tracking just wouldn’t work, and sometimes the program would crash. Is there a trick to tracking multiple objects in one clip-or better yet, attaching multiple objects to one tracker?

I still prefer to track in Motion 5. Either with keyframes or using the actual tracking feature. I find this new FCPX tracker to be the most confusing and inconsistent tracker interface. I prefer Motion for most FX since I have more control over the keyframe behaviors.

Great tutorials, setup and presentation is on point. Quick question if you dont mind, Im working on a project that requires a screen record and I really like how you present your screen record. Mind sharing some tips on maintaining resolution when zooming in and the smooth effect when scaling in to see details?

Thanks so much! 🙏🏼 sure! So I record with QuickTime in the max quality and for that smooth zoom in and out is the plug in RT Punch Ins. It’s applied in post.

Have you tried to track a moving objekt witch change size in a 3 d way as an car with a mask for the window, highlighted to se the people inside. Think driving towards you and turning from one side to the other in a picture. How would that be ?

Hey so I don't quite understand that. It's important to note that this isn't a 3d tracker. If you're looking for a 3D tracker where it looks like what your tracking is changing view points based on camera movement, pick up mTracker3D from MotionVFX.
