For mobile users, I've been using the lil drum machine 808 clone as you can upload your own samples to it. I typically set the tempo at 35-40, set the drums I want on one step forward per pad (kick=step1, snare=step2, etc) set the PO33 to record, press play on the LDM and it's done. It's not always perfect but, it seems nothing is.

It definitely isn't perfect - I recorded 4 different kits this way and had transients chopped off or completely wrong on at least 2-5 samples per kit of 16. Took a lot of trimming effort on the PO-33 itself to fix it. To be fair I recorded through a USB to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter cause my laptop jack is broken, but it still seems to work as well as doing it through my mixing board that has USB out to act as a higher-quality interface. I think for sharp and hyper-short samples it's still always important to leave a bit of space after the sample so that A) it slices transients more accurately when recording, and B) it will be easier to trim the sample if it doesn't slice accurately, since you'll have some play room after the transient (which is invaluable bc of how hard it is to trim on the PO-33 with those non-precise little knobs, I wish more than anything they would release some kind of update that would allow slow scroll/super-fine-trim). So I think I will continue to just place the samples back to back in FL Studio and leave a bit of space for the sharper transient samples like short kicks and hi-hats. But will experiment more, it's just so frustrating and time-consuming.

i'm looking at buying the po-33 to go alongside my op-1 but was concerned about the total 40 second sample space, i suppose this utility really helps shed some seconds off since your whole kit plus a bass sound takes only 1/8 of the whole memory but i wish we didn't have to use a utility at all only other solutions i can think of are playing in samples at double speed, or playing them into the op-1, chopping to get rid of dead space, and sampling it back to the 33
@smellymala3103
4 жыл бұрын
I had a pair of KOs and some other operators first and just got my OP-1, and I will say it’s nice to have a PO on the end of the chain to work out a drum beat sketch to play along with on the OP-1. You will be surprised at how easy it is to cut the samples quick using only the PO-33 once you get used to it’s workflow (the speed up technique does help a lot) if you sample a couple bars then trim it and copy it to the drum set to get the /16 it will trim the fat for you, then you can rinse your one shot sample source and cut in a few more drum sets. Once you fill it up a few times you will have a couple kits, a couple chopped samples, a few one shots and enough space to work a new sample chop in. At some point you may find yourself sacrificing kits but you can just digitally backup your sample arrangement. Using this technique you eventually have a folder of matched kits and breaks stored together and just play them out from your phone/computer/OP into the PO. They are so nasty for the size and you can draw anywhere, the freezer section of the grocery store or in your friend’s smoky ass car with the aux. All this to say you will find good ways to use it. 👍🏻 I’ll still buy at least one more PO-33. The silicone case is a must.

Perhaps simply try using your favorite music player that supports playlists and the relevant file formats (QMMP, mocp, anything...), add and arrange your sounds into a playlist (that you can save) and just play it. I haven't actually tried it with the PO-33 yet, but unless there's some hick-ups with playback I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well as this particular tool besides not having any length restrictions. A simple terminal way is to install sox and then run 'play *' in the directory where you have your 16 files, and it would play them all in alphabetic order. You can also concatenate wavs with sox to get a combined wave file like shown in the video with 'sox 1.wav 2.wav 3.wav result.wav' but it requires them to have the same sample rate and channel count.
