No need to bore out the hole.. you can stick the line pin that connects to the fireboard... instead of sticking the probe through. :)

So how does the original controller work with the damper. If you feel the damper alone makes that big of a difference? I just scored a 560 @ wal mart...they're on clearance...got mine brand new for 200.00!!!!! WOOOOT WOOOT!!!

I haven't tried the stock controller with the damper yet. The app for the stock one is lacking in my opinion and doesn't have a graph to log the cook. Which I love. I like being able to see how often the fan is running and at what percent. I do think it would be way more effective with the damper regardless because it will leak less air. Which is a big problem with the 560 in my opinion. Great score btw on the grill. I paid 240.00 for mine last season. Gotta love clearance! If you liked the video please consider subscribing, it would help me a lot. Let me know if you need any help, I'm happy to help.

How did you wire in the fireboard to control the Masterbuilt?

There is a connector you can buy here. thebbqhq.com/products/thebbqhq-custom-fireboard-masterbuilt-gravityfed-cable Or you can just unplug the stock controller and tap into the harness with you own wires. I had a old power supply that that has the same plug as the fan port on the fireboard so I just made my own.
