@@KristopherPrime Werent III´s considered as kamikaze drones? As far as I remember from reading the books they had a 100% success rate while also having a near 100% fatality rate, while their augmentations were even riskier due them being far less tested. In the books there is a scene where one of the III´s salutes to chief for having done his objective and then instantly collapsing due to having no abdomen anymore as aroiund ten needlerbolts were stuck in his stomach. In terms of being ethical it depends how you view them, II´s were kidnapped as children but were augmented to the point where they were expected to come back, III´s were augmented to be suicidebombers and expected to not come back while also just being children. Both are still kids but one has a chance of survival while the other isnt expected to survive.

@@venusflytrap2622 good point. It depends on what you prioritize. Me, I prioritize the recruitment over their mission in terms of which is more ethical. Conscripting kids who had families and lying about their fate seems less ethical Then giving war orphans an option for vengeance. Still, that’s the beauty of halo. Even if we disagree with actions of Some characters/groups, it still leads to Good stories. Both types show the desperation of humanity in their conflicts: desperate to put down a revolution that the UNSC turns kids into super soldiers and fakes their deaths. Desperate to turn war orphans into expendable super soldiers just to buy precious time against an unstoppable alien enemy. The tragic lengths people will go to when pushed into doing so. I love every scene and every moment of buildup to the Spartans in FUD. Despite the blank stare and lack of words, or rather, BECAUSE of it, their demeanor just shouts "obedience" and "duty." It's just one small appearance but it perfectly portrays how much the Spartan IIs were hardened tf out during their training. But what I love even more is the way Fred and Kelly both turn to John after they show their faces like they're waiting for him to show his face too. It's a small but amazingly complex motion. Their soulless stares still persist but the fact that they expected Chief to follow suit is enough to suggest that while Blue team may just be hardened military heavy lifters, they still have some semblance of identity and personality. It's even better when John gives that uncomfortable shrug and tries to keep his focus outside. Despite all they went through from childhood to now, they still have a shred of humanity left in 'em

I believe these Spartans were fairly young (20s?) at the time of this scene, but I feel they should've completed the effect by making them all a little "Mannish" -> All of the S-2s, including the women - were absolute beefcakes, to the point of *just starting* to look "freakish" / over-developed.

And do you wanna know why? Because it’s PART OF HIS CHARACTER. Not only does he almost never take it off in the games. But it’s written in the books that he is uncomfortable with his armor off. He is a nervous wreck. Constantly thinking about what is going to happen next. Where he might get attacked. So he keeps it on to always be prepared. That’s the kind of person he is. He’s comfortable when he feels ready for whatever is next.

Years and years ago I read a great piece analyzing Halo and the Master Chief. The writer made a great observation that by deliberately not showing his face, players would have individualized experiences playing the game. The Master Chief, in a way, was whomever the player envisioned him to be. It made him more machine, but also humanized him when you remembered there was someone behind the helmet. There was no need to “spell everything out.” The lost art of subtlety compared to today’s need for instant gratification

I’m not opposed to seeing the faces of other Spartans, I’m not even opposed to seeing Chief’s face in external mediums, but in games, WE are the Master Chief. Behind that helmet is our face, not somebody else’s.

Forward Unto Dawn was a well crafted piece of art. The New Halo series was a bowl movement.

Speaking about emotions in people's faces. You can do the opposite here, seeing character's emotion's as they see Master Chief moves the viewer without needing to take off his helmet. That's a win.

Man. FUD had a MUCH lower budget and they had to re-use props from the various Halo live-action trailers. The Armor Fred and Kelly wearing here is obviously recycled from Noble-6 and Kat from Deliver Hope. But it still did a great job brining Halo to live-action that the TV series.

Paramount has effectively transformed chief into "Captain America," which is not what Spartans are and who chief is. Spartans are similar to Witchers, in that they've forsaken their humanity, willingly or otherwise, and have ascended essentially to demi-godhood. FUD nailed their representation. They're irrevocably changed and to be honest, perfectly utilized on the periphery of a production and not as it's central focus.

That’s what sets master chief apart from his comrades. He doesn’t ever take it off in front of anyone. No matter what. And even if he does we only see a shadow of his face but to symbolize there is still a human underneath that suit not just some guy who looks like he got lost while shooting the show. The way they should have done halo tv show should have been exactly like games. Just do it right.

Not only the helmet, Master Cheeks is at least partially naked half of the time lol If they were going to show him naked they could have at least shown his body as it was supposed to be: full of scars, the body of someone who has sustained a lot of modification to become what they are. Master Cheeks just looks like a gym bro who's very dedicated lol

I remember when this miniseries initially came out, and the most positive things the Halo fandom said about it then was that it dragged on and was uninteresting for the academy scenes with only the final parts with the Covenant invasion and the rescue by Chief being good. It's kind of amusing seeing so many people just outright praising it now after the disappointment of the Halo TV series.
