Another teacher calls the off/on chord technique "bouncing". Eitherway is very helpful with muscle memory.

Great video Shane because I play the piano but I’m gonna dive into learning the guitar. YIKES! Obviously, i’m going to need all the help, so thanks for the beginners tips, the 5 learning methods. I’m scared but love the sound and will try to have “patience” … slowly. Want to play jazz … my forward plan of joy!!

So good Shane. IIRC the great Howard Roberts once said 'never practice anything wrong. Slow it down until you get it.' And as I struggle with a Billy Strings tune, it is gospel. Never thought of Catch/release; damn good idea.

I'm using your technique for learning the fretboard and it is really helping me out a lot to fill in the many gaps I have on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings. Also, great advice on the 4th tip. There are many apps today that let you hear the music as well as slow it down and loop it that makes it so much better than the way it used to be learn a song. Thanks for sharing these tips!

Howdy Shane, After 12 years and illness I still consider myself a beginner. These were really excellent tips of which some I use and the one biggie I have the most trouble with is learning the notes on the neck. I’ve got a pretty decent idea of the sixth string and of course the first one but other than C, A and D notes on the first three strings it’s been like trying to raise the Titanic. Looking forward to watching your video on the neck. Hoping it helps me get that down. Thanks for a cool channel. And for sharing your experience.

I've watched you on Daryl's House and got your Rhythm and Solo Mojo courses on Truefire - which are fantastic. I've just come across your channel and I have to say it's up there with Guthrie and Uncle Larry and the rest. I watched an earlier video (the Pomodoro method - I use that !!!). As a busy function band player I can confidently say ALL your advice is spot on - you should have 100K subs at least!
