When my children were small I liked to go to different towns sometimes to do my shopping. I was in a Cornish town and just by the car park was a new craft shop!! My children tried to push me past saying "No Mum!" How well they knew me! Anyway, I did go in and, though I had never considered spinning my own yarn, I came out with an Ashford Traditional. This was in 1984. I know that because I was expecting my youngest child. All I had was a tiny leaflet on how to spin but I was eager to get going. Books on the subject were practically non existent and there wasn't the help of KZitem. Husband was a farmer so it wasn't difficult getting fleece though, looking back, it wasn't really suitable for clothing. Since then I have changed wheels several times. The lady who bought my lovely Traditional absolutely wrecked it! I was so upset. I'm looking at an e-spinner because I am not always able to treadle these days but will have to save up for it. I have the dear little EEW Nano 2 which is lovely but I very quickly run out of bobbins, they are so tiny! It sits on my lap and runs off the mains or a phone battery charger. So clever. My treadle wheel I have is a Majacraft Rose but my cat thinks the polyband drive band is such fun to play with!! He has snapped a few now! They are expensive so now I make my own with polyband from Amazon.

So interesting to see you spin. Got to watch all the spinning videos cuz one day I am going to get back into spinning once more. When I do, I will film it so you can watch and perhaps maybe some advice!☺... When I first "discovered" wool, it's for needle felting. Then I explored more and found there are tons of things to do with wool. Me being a somewhat curious and creative person, went and made myself a very simple hand spinning "tool" out of a piece of flat round wood and a chopstick. I even weigh it to get a certain weight so it's heavy enough to spin! Not too bad and I actually spun some yarn using some of my needle felting wool! after getting the hang out of it, I went and ordered myself an Ashford Kiwi 2 wheel and a drum carder...why a drum carder? well, me being curious and over "adventurous", I wanted to card some art batts to make art yarns! ...and of course I order lots and lots of undyed wool....why undyed? well, me again....curious of how wool is dye 🤣 but I didn't buy any pigments but instead I bought some food colouring and corn vinegar. All in all, cost me a fortune cuz it doesn't stop there....more and more stuffs along my "curious" journey! 😳...that my friend, will be another day's story!😅💜

I can relate. Your comment made me smile I think we have all done impulsive creative purchases. There are so many creative paths to follow and it's hard when you want to follow them all . Thank you for sharing your story. Have a beautiful and creative day 🧶🐏🙏🌸
