I'm getting told "Just use Mastermind" a lot ;)... Yeah I reviewed that an eternity ago and it is awesome: kzitem.info/news/bejne/z3p302GpfmVzhW0 This is quite a different solution though with it's own advantages as Alexa automatically speaks the message as it is received rather than having to ask using the phrase "Alexa ask Mastermind What was that". Plus this can access ANY notification of your choosing, can use custom wording, and can be used in alternative solutions such as car stereo. Mastermind is more featured, and is better if you want to be able to ask at random for stuff, but this is better if you want immediacy :)

While an improvement, I want the phone to announce the incoming message, ask me if I want it to be read to me...and then ask me if I want to reply. I also want it to listen for my command to send a text to someone and then let me dictate and send it. Hands free.

Some people would say this is pointless, just read them from your phone or the apps available, you don't need Alexa to do it. To which I say, why else would you have Alexa if you don't use it for things like this 😂😂. Also, love your videos

Quite enjoyed the video. Well done. A couple of questions: 1. I'm presuming you can simply be alerted you have a WhatsApp message without the content of the message being read out? 2. If I have a Google speaker in the bedroom and the lounge, will the alert be announced on both speakers? (would like alert to be announced on speaker I'm nearest to - but realise this would be difficult/impossible?)
@paulhibbert
5 жыл бұрын
Hey Nathan, sure, just do the same thing as in the video at the 5 minute mark but without the message variable added in. The alert will come out of whichever device your Android is bluetoothed to, you could technically create a tasker profile that witched which device you were bluetoothed to based on there being motion detected in a particular room!! That would be crazy cool :P

You really should have done a tutorial on how to install Tasker first, the reason why I am saying that for is because it is asking me to install and buy another program, turn notifications on, saying about subscribing and all sorts of crap. A tasker set up guide would have been handy before this or any future video that involves this kind of stuff. If the program was easy to install then it is not a problem, however Tasker has so many set up options that for a newbie is confusing.

you can do this with a second profile. this profile is triggered by - Application - Whatsapp. the profile need a "task" and an so-called "exit task". the task is setting a variable to 1 and the exit task is setting the same variable to 0. the variable name must have a capital letter(e.g. %Whatsapprunning). you will need this variable in the original-paul-profile. in the paul profile add a "for-loop" which end if a variable (%Whatsapprunning) is 1. . in the loop are all say -commands and a wait command (eg wait 1 minute). the loop will "speak every minute the same text until you open whatsapp. in addition I would add 2 variable settings. (set %antitle to %mytitle - set %antext to %mytext) before the loop -use these varaibles instead of %antitle,%antext in the say commands .

I don't have a smart watch or fitness tracker but I'm wondering if one could trigger a scene. e.g. - Smart watch knows you're asleep and shuts off tv and lights or body temp goes up a little and it triggers the air conditioner etc.. ¿Is this possible?
@MrMechaMatt

Check out 'IFTTT + sports tracker' for linked automations. I know one has a button on it that you can use to trigger things and the Fitbit recipes on IFTTT can trigger your coffee machine (or 'good morning' message etc) when it detects that you're awake. Temperature would be best monitored with a smart hub sensor like the SmartThings stuff, that can trigger the air con/heater. It starts out as a question and turns into an obsession! Good luck.

Hi Joanne, Tasker is a paid app, well worth the money 😊. Some of the plugins are charged for, some are entirely free, and some (like the one I used in this video) can be used to their full by watching a one off ad. When you want to set tasker up just open the "autonotification" app and click "use for free". Once you've watched the ad you can use the app for free to set up tasker. Your tasker task will work for free forever and you'll only have to watch an ad again if you want to make changes to the setup or add a new task that utilises autonotification. Hope that makes sense! -P

Great video. Pity about the blue-tooth connection. My phone is normally blue-tooth'ed to my amp for playing music whilst I'm home, so I'm not sure I want my sexts read out through 12 speakers in the middle of watching a scary movie. :) Technically your title is wrong as Alexa & Google Home are not "reading" SMS messages but are being used as a speaker so your phone can "read" the messages. :) If there was an app that could transmit the messages to Alexa for her to read the message (without blue-tooth) that would be great.
@paulhibbert
5 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan, I did think of using the title "How to get Alexa to sound like shes reading out your text messages by bluetoothing your phone to a set of speakers and then using Tasker's Text to speech to process your notifications into something it can then transmit as audio to your echo dot", but it didn't sound quite as catchy ;) All joking aside, check out Mastermind, it may provide the functionality you're after! :)
