I don't agree with this "If the Bible condones something then the opposite is a sin" argument. That's not Biblical. Yes, Paul says to marry to meet your sexual desires, that's true. But to say that therefore masturbation is a sin because it's a different way to control sexual desire is unfounded. (I would argue that masturbation does not meet all sexual needs otherwise men would never get married to us women.) The Bible also says that drinking wine is good. Does that mean not drinking it is a sin? Obviously not. Can we drink too much, according to scripture? OF COURSE! Therefore we are not to be addicted to masturbation or utilize sinful expressions to masturbate, such as watch port or lust after another human being. I think many are uncomfortable with masturbation and how it's been used to justify objectifying others. But that does not make it a sin. It's not fair to tell a teenager who is unable to get married that they must just struggle with sexual desire and try to forget about it, we've all been teenagers we get that that is a silly notion. In God's word, it says don't have sex with animals, don't have sex with anyone outside of Biblical marriage, and it even explicitly tackles the sin of homosexuality. No where does it say that "self-pleasure" is a sin. That's just man-made twisting of scripture logic. I would be very careful making this argument. You're going to hurt a lot of people who believe that God is punishing them with their sexual desire and not granting them a spouse to marry. Watch where you are treading.

This is not true. Masturbation is not a sin. Masturbation is something nearly all people do. I guarantee you for sure if it mattered that much to God he would have specifically spoken about it. When it comes to a matter of this big God is direct with these kind of things. You cannot indirectly try to say masturbation is a sin in and of itself because with big issues God does not leave us in the dark. God always speaks directly about critical issues. Masturbation is not sex with yourself. It cannot even be categorized as sex because it's plain and simply is not that. We cannot walk away around this particular subject and say Yup God was talking about that when in fact he wasn't. This type of teaching and misunderstanding puts people into a big dilemma within themselves. Taking indirect approaches and applying them as if they are direct can be very dangerous.. It can literally highly negatively impact many people's lives. Again because this is a wide spread matter that affects most humans if God was worried about it he would have directly spoken about it but God never did such a thing.

As a believer I find it completely strange that we believers escape the truth thay God, our creator, created in us male and female the urge to even get horny, sex drive whatever you'd like to call it. It's not unnatural to be a horny kid. Let's be honest we all went through puberty and know what comes with it. We have to stop making teens feell like the devil is making them horny. We do, however, have a responsibility to teach and pray with the youth concerning what is natural and what can be misused concerning our natural desires. Angela, I completely understand your statement. However, for some (or many) like myself for so many years, my lack of peace was nothing more than the misunderstanding of masturbation as I grew up. I carried uneeded guilt and shame which wasn't from the Holy Spirit but only me. So each person needs to know if it is the conviction of the Holy Spirit or if it is self imposed guilt and shame from misguided teachings. After studying it for a month pretty deeply, I found out (for me) that masturbation is a gift from God for singles to help keep them from sinning as well as useful in a marital situation. You may disagree which is fine, but when you research the arguments for pro and for con, the con just didn't hold up anymore when I became honest with myself to look into without preconceived ideas. I started from scratch with an open mind which many cannot seem to do. It's all about being a truth seeker and going where the truth really does lead. God bless.

@@angelmd43 even the King James says to walk in the spirit so you do not fulfill the lust of the flesh. That is what this scripture is pointing to. Then you need to know what scripture is saying when it uses the word "lust." Many Christians and pastors do not even know the definition thinking if you are thinking of a sexual situation you are "lusting." This couldn't be further from the truth. The greek word used for lust actually means to "covet" in which king David did to a T with Bathsheeba. He coveted her that he made plans to have her. Thinking of a fantacy for instance while masturbating if you are not coveting is in no way lusting. I know, this may seem like I am compromising but I am a researcher to want to know the truth as I am a truth seeker. I have found occasionally that God is not as uptight as we are. I used to be more legalistic earlier in life but have been seeing it and casting it off as I age. I am living in more freedom as I have done this and at the same time very much in concert with the Holy Spirit as I walk doing his will through life. We very much are sexual beings and I now know that having NO sexual outlet as a single is asking for a much greater temptation to sin with anohter. That is why God through ALL scripture is strangely silent about masturbation. Why would he not prohibit it being the most practiced sexual act throughout all history? I am sure Mark is a committed brother and respect his views but in all honesty, he is reaching to come to his conclusion. I would suggest that if you have questions about masturbation, try reading the other side of the argumment and then pray about it. As I have known the anti side all my life but once I read the other side the anti side simply didn't hold any water as my eyes were opened to wanting truth w/ God's guidence. I would never suggest people to masturbate as whatsoever is not of faith is sin. But for those who want truth and are frustrated sexually, I hope they read this and w/ prayer look into it for themselves. I am sad as others like I used to be were so accepting automatically what was taught me that set me up for a lifetime of needless shame and guilt. There indeed is freedom in Christ as long as you are not participating in obvious sexual sin. God bless, sorry for the novel.

Good thoughts Mark. I'd say one reason maturbation can leave you feeling so empty and awful afterwards is because during sexual activity our brains release bonding chemicals, and so when you partake in solo-sex, you release those chemicals but there is nobody for you to bond to and so you feel even more lonely and empty than before. I'm not perfect at avoiding the temptation all the time, but looking at it that way helps me pass it up sometimes and be patient to wait for God to provide a spouse and so use this incredible thing God has given us in sex in the right context.

@@timothy2491 It certainly is not healthy. My life was destroyed at a young age. M and porn made me socially anxious, awkward and gave me extreme brain fog. I had 0 motivation to do anything except fulfilling my lowest desires. This is NOT healthy. After stopping cold-turkey everything literally changed in just a few days/weeks (at that time I managed a 60 days streak without PMO). Suddenly, I felt more grounded than ever before. I had excess energy. First time in my life I had the a real urge to grow intellectually by reading books. I started to improve in other areas of life by going to gym and eating healthier - things that used to be dreadful before. Before stopping I slept on weekends about 12h a night, after stopping 6h were MORE THAN SUFFICIENT! People and especially girls started noticing me and suddenly everyone wanted to have conversations with me. I am not the only one. Check out r/NOFAP to see similar experiences of what abstaining from M and porn can do! Spilling away the thing that is able to create life does indeed drain you mentally and physically. And the "studies" you mention are dubious at best and lying at worst. It's the same porn shilling studies that tell us that porn is healthy and that not masturbating makes you right wing. I don't believe that masturbation is advised. It's hard to masturbate without lusting. Even if you do it "faceless" and don't think about any person, it will still get out of hand one time and from there you will continue to gradually go down. M without lusting is not the same. If you do it enough "faceless" you will step up the game and start lusting. Then start watching porn. Then start having weird kinks because all the previous things didn't satisfy you anymore. What I can see from your comment is only justification on why you want to continue going down that harmful path. It's like the alcoholic finding all excuses on why he needs a drink. Tell me that you feel great after masturbating and have no guilt or shame whatsoever and I will eat up your words. The consensus so far seems to be that everyone feels guilty after masturbation. Some try to say that you don't have to feel guilty (it's the PaTrIaRcHy that made us feel guilty) and others who actually tried to stop it all together but fell back once in a while tell that this guilt is intrinsically as Johnny correctly assessed. This implies that we are not meant to go around and spill out our semen. No offense here mate, just trying to share my experience.

The fact that you try to persuade OP with loose facts like lEsS pRoStAtA cAnCeR shows that you are only looking for excuses (if you truly believe in God as the Creator then we can be certain that his design of the body is not flawed in such a way that following up on his commands (like no sexual immorality) would lead to self-harm. And no, speaking as a med student here, there are no rudimentary structures in the body). Lust is a mind game. It comes as a thought and ends as a crippling feeling if you give in. But it's not invincible. You just need to redirect your attention to something else. Changing any related cues that usually lead to lust/M will help greatly since getting horny usually involves the same place. If that's the case then it's already a habit. In fact the word lust simple means to have a desire to have something. 1 Timothy 3:1 uses the word in a positive context. Lusting after something is not necessarily sexual or even negative, it's depends on what you are lusting after. If you lust for something that is not against any of God's commandments then it's fine. There's a lot of confusion around Matthew 5:28, but if you read it with the understanding I just described in mind you will see it's talking about not lusting after married women. Obviously the passage wouldn't make sense if it meant all women because then no one could ever get married in that case. The issue at hand was theft and respecting what belongs to another man. You'll notice that fits the context of the chapter.

SEVERAL ISSUES PLEASE. First let me just say I am not trying to be contentious or antagonistic. My concern in this area is, as a minister, how to best and most Biblically council men and women who come to me with this issue. I have my doubts that Mark really even believes what he is preaching here, based on looking at the top comments made when this video was first published. He never responds to even one that I saw. That's a big red flag to me. I am greatly concerned for men and women "called to marry" who are widowed or abandoned. And also for young men and women who are just not in a place where marriage is realistically possible. The main issue I have is with Mark's statement that the Bible doesn't mention masturbation simply because it would be impossible to name every possible new sexual sin. I agree that would be impossible. However masturbation would have been as old as when Adam discovered he had opposable thumbs. I know I "discovered" it at the age of 8 or 9. So if it were truly a sin I would expect that at least once, the scriptures which mention everything from bestiality to homosexuality, would have said so. As for what Jesus said about looking with lust in Matthew 5, I would ask you Mark if I can have $100 dollars and a ride to California and back to Missouri? Because Jesus also said in that same chapter it is wrong to turn anyone away who asks of you, or compels you to give them a ride somewhere. My obvious point with all of this is that we can continue to brow beat our brothers and sisters to strain at this gnat, or we can encourage them to keep following Christ and trusting only in the work of the cross.

As someone who has always had an above-average interest in sex even before puberty, this is something that I have a very hard time with, as do certain other men (probably the great majority in fact). And if I am honest, and apply multiple verses of scripture together to get a complete picture of what the Bible says about sexual conduct and our thought lives, then I must admit masturbation in most cases is not biblical. But having read the entire Bible more than once, I completely disagree that the Bible gives us any clear and direct instruction on the subject of masturbation. Leviticus gives hundreds of individual rules for holy conduct, and yet it never once touches this subject. God could have spelled out exactly what not to do (and how to successfully not do it as well!) if He had chosen to do so, but for reasons we can only speculate on, He did not. If masturbation is a sin, and I will not argue that it is not in most cases, I certainly would appreciate some specifics on how to avoid it! As someone who can find himself becoming aroused just watching an attractive female in modest apparel doing the weather on TV (come on guys, admit it, you've done this too!), I could use more biblical teaching than just the commonly recited verses I often hear. I am fifty-five years old and my wife passed away two years ago, yet as much as I miss her and still love her, my hormones have not backed down. Yes I agree that it is better to marry than to burn, but let's be realistic, as the last time I checked, there isn't a long line of lonely women at my door volunteering to help me out. And what was I supposed to do as an unmarried teenager while my hormones felt like they were practically coming out of my ears? On more than one occasion while trying to abstain, I have nevertheless woken up in my sleep masturbating without even realizing it. And don't ask me to count the number of times I have started praying only to have sexual thoughts jump up seemingly out of nowhere and interrupt my efforts. For a number of reasons, I must say I find the arguments in this video somewhat less than convincing. This is a serious subject that really deserves a better treatment than this. If anyone reading this has a truly helpful suggestion or insight, feel free to respond, but please spare us all the smart-aleck wisecracks and save those for another thread where they are actually funny.

I prayed and asked God for clarity, but I don't really know what happened and I messed up. I thought about it for awhile, asking God for clarity and looking into the Bible and searching for answers... and I looked back to my mistake and concluded that any sexual content is pointless and dead without a spouse. Even though I had the exhilarating build-up and release, it made me feel incredibly alone and was like letting out a bunch of oxygen into empty space, wasting it to nothing. And from there I concluded that masturbation is empty. It may feel good at first but in the end is completely pointless without a spouse. I never felt such a lonely experience ever.

@@djvn229 which part of the bible says you cannot sexually desire a woman? if you say "mathew 5:28 of course", you have evidently read it, and not understood its error. The correct translation of mathew 5:28 is thus, "but i say to you, if any man look upon another mans wife in order to covet her (lust after her) he has already committed adultery with her in his heart".... you see this is a classic case of man teaching the doctrines of men, as the commandments of God, the word translated here as WOMAN (γυναῖκα) is also the SAME word for WIFE.... it's clear the Lord is referring to a WIFE here because he is talking about adultery. Adultery in scripture, is only EVER a married woman having sex outside of marriage. For instance a married man having sex with a SINGLE woman outside of marriage, was fornication, NOT adultery. In order for our Lord to be discussing adultery, a MARRIED WOMAN must be being discussed, as our Lord and saviour surely knows the meaning of the word adultery, as it is used in scripture. It would also be a refutation of his own word, if the Lord was saying that merely desiring a woman sexually was sinful, for have you not read deuteronomy 21? where the Lord gives his laws regarding the taking of wives from the captives of war? for he states in Deuteronomy 21:11 "When you go out to battle against your enemies, and the Lord your God delivers them into your hands and you take them away captive, 11 and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and have a desire for her and would take her as a wife for yourself, 12 then you shall bring her home to your house, and she shall shave her head and [g]trim her nails. 13 She shall also [h]remove the clothes of her captivity and shall remain in your house, and mourn her father and mother a full month; and after that you may go in to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife. 14 It shall be, if you are not pleased with her, then you shall let her go [i]wherever she wishes; but you shall certainly not sell her for money, you shall not [j]mistreat her, because you have humbled her." You see, here the LORDS law states, "and see among the captives a BEAUTIFUL woman, and have a DESIRE FOR HER and would TAKE HER AS A WIFE for yourself" Now what does that mean? it's very obvious, he SAW a woman, saw she was BEAUTIFUL and DESIRED TO HAVE SEX WITH HER, and thus would TAKE HER AS A WIFE for himself..... now the LORDS LAW is what states this, and nowhere here is that a BAD thing, in fact it's a NATURAL thing as per how the Lord God made us, and without it, we would practically NEVER get married without desiring women sexually..... i hope this has been illuminating, and by the grace of God it frees you from the shackles of false teachings and doctrine, where the doctrines of man are dispensed as the commandments of God, where his word is twisted and used as a cudgel against those without knowledge. God bless and keep you.

Argument: 1. X is associated with Y, and Y is wrong, therefore X is wrong. This is bad logic. 2. X is selfish and is therefore wrong. Well, so is eating. This is bad logic. 3. 1 Corinthians 7:1-5 "Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: 'It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.' But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control." Now, what is the subject of the paragraph? It's about having sexual relations with a woman (verse 1). Implying it's anything else is intellectually dishonest. The "lack of self control" appears (in the entire context) to refer to the subject of the paragraph and nothing else. You say it's all "sexual activity" (is X sexual activity?) that isn't with your spouse. That's not what Paul actually said. This is bad logic. 4. 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 "To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion." You say this requires complete abstinence from "sexual activity" or marriage. But, again, that's not what Paul actually said here. He said they had to remain single - not to fornicate (engage in sexual acts with another outside of marriage). This is bad logic! 5. Scripture stands by itself and Paul said what he actually said, not what you (or anyone else, including me) wish he had said. You don't get to put words in his mouth. "You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you." - Deuteronomy 4:2. To disobey God in this manner is directly sinful! 6. You say "It's condemned by what is condoned." This is the argument from silence fallacy and is bad logic! 7. I'm not even saying you're wrong about your conclusion. I'm saying literally every step you used to get there was wrong. 8. I always find it difficult to immediately believe people who espouse any point while trying to make money on the point itself (your book).

I do agree with you how when Paul talks about getting married to avoid temptation, getting married due to lack of self control, etc, Paul is talking about fornication instead of masturbation. Paul wrote in the New Testament how if people are having a hard time controlling their urges, having a hard time dealing with being tempted to commit fornication, etc, they should marry so they don't engage in fornication. Paul was talking about fornication instead of masturbation. I've heard the argument how masturbating is a sin because the Bible says that sex outside of marriage is a sin, and masturbating is sex outside of marriage. The problem with an argument like that is masturbating is not considered sex. The Bible is very clear how sex outside of marriage is a sin. When the Bible says how sex outside of marriage is a sin, it's referring to sexual intercourse. I've heard the argument how masturbating is a sin because the Bible says in Matthew 5:28 that lusting after someone is committing adultery in your heart. The Greek word for lust in Matthew 5:28 means planning, intending, attempting, etc; not fantasizing, daydreaming, etc. When the Bible says that lusting after someone is committing adultery in your heart, it means that flirting with a woman who is not your wife, hitting on a woman who is not your wife, making hotel reservations with a woman who is not your wife, going out on a date with a woman you have a crush on who is not your wife, planning to commit adultery, attempting to commit adultery, etc are just as bad as committing adultery. Matthew 5:28 means that attempting to commit adultery is just as bad as actually committing adultery just like in God's eyes attempted murder is just as bad as committing murder. I've also heard the argument how masturbating is a sin because the thoughts people think about while masturbating are sinful, and it's impossible to masturbate without having sinful thoughts in your mind. The problem with an argument like that is God gave people a sex drive, which causes people to have sexual thoughts in their minds. It's not a sex to have sexual kinds of thoughts in your mind, it's not a sin to have sexual urges, it's not a sin to have sexual desires, etc. Sexual thoughts and desires are natural. Masturbating helps prevent people from engaging in premarital sex, adultery, rape, prostitution, etc. Masturbating helps people deal with sexual temptations just like punching a punching bag helps prevent people from doing sinful things when they are angry. Based on what the Bible teaches, it seems like there's no evidence that masturbation is a sin. Masturbation is only a sin when a person is looking at porn while masturbating, masturbating in public, or masturbating too much.

@@seraph4984 of course God gives grace and is merciful. Jesus gave His life for us. All the old testament and new testament prophets were sinners, so are we today. But that does not mean we cannot change. The truth is that you have the power to overcome sin and compulsion and addiction. And if you don't feel you can, or see a change, that means you need God's help. That can come through a class or another person or a spiritual experience from God Himself. When you are compulsive to anything, you are a slave to it. That is how addictions work. And God hates slavery. He has provided us truth through Jesus, not to scare us, but to give us a chance at a better life. Because Jesus has overcome and gives us the promise of the Holy Spirit through him to overcome sin. Jesus said: "what is impossible for man is possible for God" that means God can help us when it is impossible for us too. However yes it could be like Mt. Everest to you. It is nearly impossible to do it alone, without help, without knowledge, without training. But that does not mean it is impossible for humans or anyone to climb. Greetings Loved Ones! If masturbation was in the Ten Commandments or in Christ's Words from GOD, as a sin, then it would be a sin! You have no right to call it a sin! Masturbation does no harm to other people or GOD, therefore it is not a sin, nor is it to be brought before the Judge, unless you want to be condemned for accusing another brother or sister of masturbating! Sin is classified under the category of hurting GOD or other people! Do Not make obeying GOD to be burdensome! Christ said that the laws of GOD are not burdensome, and they all pertain to Worshipping GOD and not hurting others! That which is common among mankind, that does not hurt anyone, will not be Judged by GOD or Christ! You are the gods of your bodies! Take care of them! If you do not take care of your body, no one else will, not even GOD or Christ! It is your body, given to you by GOD, through the natural order that GOD had created! No one has authority over your body or to speak evil of your body! No spirit can enter your body, unless you give them permission to help you, otherwise it would be considered spiritual rape! It is no ones business what you do in the privacy of your dwelling! Stop adding a list of fleshly activities to the Ten Commandments or Christ's added Words from GOD! The sin of Adultery and Lust is committed when a person lusts after a married woman, not a single woman who is available! It is a normal desire of the flesh, to desire a mate, and is not classified as a sin, nor is it classified as lust, until an evil intent of the heart has occurred! The thought of committing Adultery with a married woman, is as sinful as actually committing Adultery! This thought has now become Lust! But when it comes to single girls and women and single boys and men, attracted to the opposite sexes, there is no sin or lust! Desire or Craving is not a Lust but a normal desire, until an evil act is contemplated in the heart and mind! Christ will only judge you on the intent of your heart, not on appearances, dresswear or the spoken words! This is Scriptural! Paul was an overly strict false apostle! Read Revelation, chapters 2 and 3, concerning the false apostles who were exposed and those who were teaching the Gentiles that they were Jews but were not! You have followed in the wake of overly strict false ministers and Pharisees, who created more sins and obligations to the list, to imposed on the people, to make them feel guilty and add heavy burdens on them, to subject the people to their evil control! Pleasure is not a sin, unless it is contaminated by an evil thought or activity that hurts someone! Without Pleasures, who would want Eternal Life, as an angel! The same is True about Love! There are different levels of Love and Pleasure, just as there are different levels of hatred, in which some are permitted, like hating the evils that humans and animals do to other humans and animals! Without Love, Self-Pleasure is a good way to prevent one from committing suicide or from raping another soul, which are sinful acts! Self-pleasures also helps to prevent overpopulation, which is a problem for this world! Do you really want the entire world, including Christians, to be under guilt for the rest of their lives, knowing that once you have had sexual pleasures, that you cannot stop?! This is True for many, for we all have different bodies, which are vulnerable in different ways! Satan and those who are deceived by him, want you to feel guilty and depart from GOD and Christ! You are deceived by the Devil! Forget the 1st Covenant, for it was faulty and imperfect, because Lucifer deceived the whole world, including the kings of Israel, having them lie, murder, covet and steal from others, thus breaking the Ten Commandments, given to them by GOD! Love, LORD GOD, Lord Savior Immanuel Christ and Vincent EagleHawk Christ, Amen!!!!!!! AMEN!!!!!!! VJS/VEC (Prophet of LORD and Christ) 04-13-2023!

Your argument seems weak. To try to use 'categories' as a method of argument ignores the fact that homosexuality, adultery and fornication are clearly sinful and expressly forbidden, whereas masturbation, which is practiced on a hugely bigger scale is not mentioned as being expressly forbidden. Indeed in the Pentateuch we are told that if a man should 'spill his seed' in the camp at night he is unclean for a time afterwards. This means ceremonially unclean. A woman having her week is likewise described as ceremonially unclean, but surely you wouldn't argue that a woman is sinning when she has her week? I am not saying that your statement is necessarily wrong, but you certainly haven't presented a strong case, just a personal opinion..

So it' okay for King David and King Solomon to have hundreds of wives and concubines, but not okay for a teenager to masturbate? Makes a lot of sense. There's over 600 laws in the Old Testament, and of all the ones dealing with sexuality, they are all very specific. It lists many other sexual acts as sins that are much less common than masturbation, such as incest, rape, homosexuality, and beastiality. If God wanted to condemn masturbation as a sin, He would have. What it comes down to is your heart and motivation. If you're having lustful sinful fantasies while doing it, or watching porn, then no doubt is it a sin. But if you're thinking about something Godly and good, such as being married to a future spouse, nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn't become an addiction. You mention the passage about marriage, but in that historical context, it was easy for people to get married, and people would get married in their early teens. Now, people don't get married until age 30 on average, and it's hard finding the right person, especially a Christian. Sure, it would be great if we could all live in perfect celibacy like Jesus until age 30 or when we get married, but it's not realistic. And most people who say it is a sin, are already married and have struggled with it themselves when they were single. So it's very demeaning and Pharisee-like to talk down on people who desire marriage, but can't find a partner either because they are not physically attractive, or don't have the social skills. Imo, best to avoid it since it's a selfish act and you would rather do be doing he real thing with a spouse. In my experience, it's also resulted in laziness and lack of motivation. But you have to let it out at some point, and better to let it out thinking about something good than something sinful.

I feel that those “trick techniques” mentioned in the video and quickly labeled as unhealthy, without substantiation of why they would be such is coming from a place of trying to brush the subject off and declare it a sin because that’s what we’ve heard long enough in this world. 1 Corinthians 7 easily is talking about getting married to someone so that you can stop lusting after them and avoid eventually commit sexual sin with them (as the pagans would) and about not depriving each other in a marriage so you dont fall in temptation when married, lusting after someone who isnt you spouse. Also, Paul was essentially recommending everybody to stay single, and that would mean shutting off completely sexual function for the majority of people, and I dont think somehow this is what the suggestion was. God made this mechanism very powerful and sacred, and I say this from what I know of God’s natural world, so that it would be suggested to easily discard it altogether seems like taking the matter rashly. I am very serious about sexual immorality in particular, in this spiritual warfare. So Im not approaching the subject lightly, but I am looking for something more than just shutting the topic down. If something is not prohibited by principle or command, the interpretation can get shaky and we should be careful to not impose our values onto it.

@@jessicaborgogni9595 I'm afraid I am not a huge fan of this brother, Jessica, certainly not a follower. I was quite in disagreement with his teaching, in another video, touching on the subject of works in James's epistle, and how it fits into the gospel message. James, in his epistle (2 vv14-26), is writing about a hypothetical man who SAYS he has faith ( v14), not necessarily one who has faith, as Mark (and many others) seems to interpret it. James is talking about justification not in it's legal soteriological sense (which is solely by grace through faith), but in the sense of justifying one's claim to be a believer to other people. Mark says that true saving faith is ALWAYS accompanied by works. Paul's first epistle to the Corinthians shows that this is not the case. Indeed Paul states that a number of believers in Corinth were sick or even 'fell asleep' because of their undisciplined lives; but he does not doubt that they were believers. It is true that a Christian should be known for good works, but sadly it is not always the case. However, I am not criticising Mark as a dear brother, and I have no doubt that he is sincere according to the light he has, and that he loves the Lord Jesus.

@@williambunter3311 Thank you for sharing! Im afraid Im not familiar with that video in particular. Is your comment in reference to the "prosperity gospel" ? John Piper/Desiring God has some great insight about that, too. I think one fundamental misconception is that when the Bible talks about "and by their fruits you will know them" (Matthew 7:20), it's referring to fruits of the Spirit, as per Galatians 5:22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control". I know this is sometimes leveraged by the prosperity gospel to mean essentially that if you're not "prosper" it's your own fault for not being "a good enough Christian" and considering how Jesus loved the poor and the oppressed, I would say it's the downright opposite to that. Besides simply being not true and a very ableist perspective to boot. But I don't want to be putting words into Pastor Mark's mouth or get ahead of myself with this comment, as like I said, I don't think I recall the contents of that particular video you mentioned. I will say I do thouroughly appreciate Pastor Mark's works, I find most of his videos impeccable, simple yet accessible and overall a great guide to the Faith, sound in logic and carefully crafted. @@jessicaborgogni9595 Hi Jessica, I can't remember the exact video title I referred to. Fortunately there is a pretty wide scope for alternative views in the Christian family (within reason). I think there are many things you and I would agree on, and a few we would disagree about. I have very little time for Piper or Sproul or for calvinists in general. MacArthur does some good videos, but his calvinist underpinning leads him to contradict himself at times. You have made a very good point when you state that the fruits referred to by the Lord are fruits of the Spirit. Calvinists usually wrest this to imply that the Lord said 'Ye shall know them by their works' rather than what He actually said which was 'Ye shall know them by their fruits'. Scripture is awesome because every word is important; Just to change a single word can lead one astray! Calvinists often change words of Scripture to support their thesis. For example they will quote Deut. 29v29 which talks of the secret things of God, and then abuse it to mean the 'secret will' of God. Thus they can ignore or twist Scripture which tells us that God calls to ALL men, and wishes ALL men to repent and come to a knowledge of the truth. (Not 'all classes of men', Mr. Piper). This then facilitates their abhorrent doctrine of 'unconditional election'. Their gullible audiences don't even notice the deception involved. As for the 'prosperity gospel' and 'word of faith' and the 'toronto blessing', and the 'laughing ministry' etc., and all the other forms of madness, they are to be expected in these last days as many people are departing from the true teachings of Scripture. The false world 'church', the Whore of Babylon, is being formed right now. And it's not that innocent people are being deceived. Paul says that people will heap up to themselves false teacherts/prophets who will tell them what they want to hear. I wish you well in your Christian walk, Jessica.

All the men in my family were/are sex addicts and they look at my funny because I'm not out fornicating with so many girls but they fail to realize that I'm a child of God and that's not what I'm suppose to do until I'm married. Nothing here on earth is worth going to hell for. Therefore, I'll fight this addiction until God says it's my time to get married and sends me my queen. Folks, dnt kill yourself over this. Keep fasting and praying because itll all work out.

I have just one request & that is when you quote a Biblical scripture please also quote from which Bible version you are quoting from as many new translations are either leaving out complete verses or just certain words or changes a word which changes the complete meaning or interpretation. Personally I use the King James Version which runs parallel side by side with the New King James Version. An example of this is in Galations 2:20 where the KJV uses "...the faith OF...." whilst the NKJV says ".... the faith IN....". That's a major difference. Blessings.

It seems that we as a people look for a "loop hole" when it comes to God's love and grace. Surely what so ever is not of faith is sin. Be it food, drink or sex. If we can't partake of any activity in a pure conscious before God, then we sin. If we covet, if we lust, if we hate, if we do not do the good that we know to do... then we sin. Jesus was asked how many times a person could sin against us before we could stop forgiving them, "until seven times?" they asked, Christ responded "seventy times seven". In other words don't keep track. So, does our Father then require more from us than from Himself? If we are not to keep track and remember how often we forgive others of their sin against us... then does our Father not FORGET and FORGIVE?. The "repetitive" sin be it sexual or some other sin such as not loving our neighbor has it's "hooks" into believers because we believe far too often that God is weary, tired and angry with us. We see Him as sitting on His throne keeping count, "this is number 999, isn't it?". We might keep count and shouldn't, but our Father doesn't. When we go before His throne to find grace and forgiveness for a sin, He only knows of that one sin that we confess, the rest that we might be mindful of have been thrown in to a sea of forgetfulness, not to be remembered against us. When we realize that our Father sees us as His redeemed children rather than as disgusting sinners, sin loses it's grip. It's not part of us. We walk in newness of life. What ever the sin was, put it behind you... God forgot all about it when you and I confessed it.

I would love to "go get married" so that I would not have to worry about these hormones flowing through my body that I never asked for, but yet finding a single woman of appropriate age willing to give me a chance is nigh-impossible. Also, I don't have a lot of money, and not many women want a 40 year old guy who doesn't have much money. I am in no way lamenting my position in life, as God placed me where He did for a reason, even if I don't know what this reason is, but I will have to say this: It grates on the nerves a little (I can't be the only Christian who feels like this) when married pastors and/or pastors who have reasonable comeliness and money talk to all of us, like we all have these qualities and we can just "go out and get a wife" like a wife is something you go out to Walmart today and buy anytime you want. _It's not that easy._ Not by a longshot. I've prayed to God for years asking Him to provide a wife for me that I would have some way of dealing with these hormones I never asked for, so that I wouldn't be so strongly tempted to do things like this, but it's yet to happen and I'm 40 now. Now, maybe God might have me meet someone this year... or another 5 years could pass and I end up 5 years older and even less desirable as I'm not getting any younger. Point is... If you're a married pastor (I don't know if you're married or not), you should not be talking to believers like they should "get on your level" or what-not. IMO, anybody who's married has no business telling single believers that they need to "just get married, I did!" .... it's not that easy and frankly, it is demoralizing to those of us who can't find wives. And also to be honest, I'd like to find a wife that I would love and take care of, and one who would love and support me in return... but where do you find a woman like THAT in today's society? I'm rather convinced that they are few and far between.

It’s no wonder the birth rate is the lowest it’s been in 30 years. Plus 75% of all divorces are filed by women. Proving they are never satisfied. Now, here’s my 2 cents on the matter: My mom has been led to believe that all her life, especially being told that everything she’ll do or has done is bad. She was never told that she’s human & we all fall short of God’s grace. It’s sinful if you interpret the Bible literally, not correctly. We are not of the law, but of the grace God gives us through faith. It’s OK to masturbate, and it’s one thing to do so occasionally; it’s another thing entirely to let that become part of your life for an eternity. I don’t believe that masturbation is a sin, unless there are people who interpret the Bible in such a way that they should interpret it as law. Yes, we should still pray for forgiveness if we fall short (and we will), or when masturbation is done out of guilt instead of pleasure; no, we shouldn’t live in fear of the law, because we of the Spirit of God are not bound by law. We still have to obey the laws of this world, but we must keep in mind that the Word of God is absolute. If you want my view on it, from what God has told me through people I trust in my life, I don’t think masturbation is a sin unless Scripture is taken out of context.

1Corinthians 7 in the first two verses sets the context and the context is to avoid fornication! You deceitfully defined fornication basically as any sexual gratification outside of the marriage bond but unfortunately for your theory the Greek defines fornication as...from 4203; harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatry:--fornication. You included self gratification i.e. masturbation in the definition and this is simply untrue! Secondly, verse 5 where spouses were to come back together that Satan not tempt them for lack of control...you forgot to read verse 6 where Paul makes it clear it was advice and not a commandment of God which would make void the label of sin if not adhered to! It was simply advice for both spouses to consent to abstain from sexual activity for an agreed amount of time for fasting and prayer! So I guess if consent was given by both and one did masturbate then yes a sin was committed but masturbation itself wasn’t the sin but the breach of the agreement and or lying would be! In regard to the single person, it says it’s better to marry than to burn (in sexual desire) Now the word better in the Greek is defined as more nobler! Which indicates there is nothing wrong with abstaining from fornication while burning with desire! In fact it’s quite noble of one to do so, it’s just better (more noble) to marry than to burn if you cannot contain from fornication (sexually relations with another person) while burning! My comment here is in no way in defense of masturbation I just can’t tolerate a misuse of Gods Word!

But there is also a good outlet with single people and serves a righteous purpose to help keep us from temptation to sin with another. If Paul was so clear for a husband and wife to not stay apart too long after finishing fasting and praying (apart) why wouldn't God be even more intentative on giving us single people an outlet seeing that we have no other sexual expression like married people do. Again, and I have commented on many of these channels over this subject. I am 65, never married, never been with another person sexually in my whole life, and I have always had a problem with close physical contact. I was never molested, or anything like that, I just never have liked people in my personal space. But, I do have normal hormones, and with normal hormones, come normal needs, so yes, people do this. Teenagers do it. It's a sin to harm yourself, but is this harm? Maybe with porn, yes, but for release, you can say, isn't it a sin to gorge on a whole pizza and a pint of ice cream? To smoke? To have that glass of wine, or a cold beer? Maybe, just maybe, if priests and nuns weren't forbidden to marry, they wouldn't have molested and harmed so many kids. So, I guess I am just tired of the hypocrisy of the church. If God is love, then I hope he loves me enough to know, I am who I am, and do I and have I wished to be like everyone else? Of course I have. But stop trying to make it like it's some demonic possession to be having normal urges in your own body put there by hormones you cannot control.

How can God be so careful as to encourage marrieds to return right away to continue sex after a time of separation for prayer and then tell the singles "hey, you just must suck it up until you get married." Makes no sense. I now know in my heart after praying about it and studying it that masturbation is a gift from God for singles to help them from getting sexual with anohter person they are not married to. What’s frustrating is this doesn’t give grace for those who’ve experienced something different. For example, someone who is sexually abused as a child. Trying to reclaim your sexuality as an adult is all the more difficult. You want to overcome the trauma and not let it rule you, yet you have much stronger urges because it was introduced to you so young. You’d like to be married and not burn with sin but you can’t form healthy relationships that may lead to marriage because it has damaged you so deeply. But when you try to handle it yourself, you feel so anxious and guilty. (And to say “God will heal you, just pray” don’t insult me) at times I feel like a prisoner to God which sucks because You ultimately love him but yeah, this is a major struggle and not so black and white

It is our job to choose God. I struggle too (still). I feel like "God's prisoner" sometimes as well. Respond and we talk more if you like (or not, up to you). But the pastor is not wrong. God is not wrong. It is us who are wrong (in the moment we sin). It is our responsibility to do thé right thing IN SPITE of our tramuas. It is the Devil who leads you (and I) to believe we are God's prisoners, and that the rules should not apply to us because we are victims (noticd I did not put "victims" in quotes). There is a concept of "dimijished responsibility," where God judges those who suffered trauma (particularly childhood trauma) less harshly. But He still expects us to do the right thing (which involves not committing sexual sin, and repenting if we do).

for me just continue to trust in Lord ♥️ He is a God who forgives, heals and changes the heart of a person. sometime we are just too hard in ourselves and feel so hopeless. But all we need to do is to look upon God, to never cease from praying even if it takes a 100yrs for you to overcome that battle. The most important is you trust in the Lord, you repent and gradually you see the changes in your heart. For me acknowledging that your commiting a sin and knowing thay it breaks the heart of God is already a manifestation of a changed heart. God bless you

This is silly. Masturbation does not hurt anyone! It is not a sin. In fact it can be used to prevent sin actually. This is nonsense.

Hahaha. It does not mean when something doesn't hurt anyone, is considered not a sin, that's so narrow - defined, so SILLY! Well you can watch porn and nothing else will never be hurt. But it is a sin against God and for it's driving your heart to pornography and self lust. God hates it. You actually said no other human being will be hurt, yes, but God is! If anyone think they can praise God while doing such a thing, it's blasphemy. Try to say "praise the Lord" while drinking much alcohol and smoking, may that alone suffice in the fact we cannot mix bad and good, nor confuse bad from good. Masturbation is sin. And in you point that it could prevent sin. Try wallowing into it daily, try soaking yourself daily, then suddenly you'll end up craving for more until founding yourself loosing self-control, and diving deeply into porn until someone pervert enough to make harassment and worse things. The Bible says flee from youthful lusts. It starts with the mind until it conceives and consumes the person. God bless you, just a warning.

The word "lust" is one of the most misunderstood words from the Bible. All lust means is a strong desire for something. Lust is not an exclusively sexual term. The same Greek word is also translated as desire in other places such as 1 Tim 3:1. So to "lust" after something can be good or bad depending on whether or not the object of your desire is forbidden or not. Pertaining to Matthew 5:28 the "lust" Jesus is talking about is bad because it is a form of adultery at the heart level. Adultery is not premarital sex. Adultery is when someone takes another man's wife from him. So if you desired a single woman you would not be committing adultery in your heart since she doesn't belong to another man yet. The word woman in Matthew 5:28 is the word for a married woman. Check the Greek words, there's other words for single woman or virgin woman that could have been used here if Jesus really wanted to tell you that you can't desire a woman. You know that God made Eve beautiful to please Adam, right? All Jesus was saying is that it's wrong to desire someone else's wife because that's a form of theft. He wasn't saying its wrong to have sexual desire for a woman who is free and you could potentially marry. I hope this helps as this is an area that we need a reformation on in the church.
