For our Pham asking about the Cut Out Hair Technique, it is exclusive to our PRO tutorial. You can find that here: phlearn.com/tutorial/cut-hair-photoshop/

Just so everyone knows, for transparencies sake, the tutorial he mentions with the more advanced techniques seems to be not so much CUTTING OUT hair, but ADDING hair back. It seems like a bit of false advertising, since he says "cutting out hair", when really he's making a cut out and then using brushes to recreate hair.

Basically you are adjusting the light levels of the subject with the Level (luminosity) adj layer using the threshold layer as your guide.
@ED-es2qv
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I'm not catching what you're actually adjusting before you check it again. I've gotten the threshold thing down so I can make the differences show, I just keep rewatching and I can't see what you're doing to the levels.

I'm an artistic designer thats been using photoshop for 24 years since 1996 and I'm still learning new things all the time lol. The adobe suite is so massive. As rapid as technology grows and with adobe constantly working to add new features I don't think anyone will fully know the ins and outs of it. Just stop using photoshop for 6 months. When you come back to it there will be a huge list of new features and changes

This might be the best method of lighting for noobies especially. Most tutorials just have you eyeballing with a black and white mask not realizing us newer folk don't have an eye for that yet. So having something technical like this is amazing. Liked and subscribed.. thank you.

Great tutorial on how to use the Threshold adjustment layer, which I've hitherto ignored, as a luminosity balancing tool. I also see the Threshold adjustment layer being used to generate layer masks. thanks, richard hargrove -- It doesn't stop being magic just because you find out how its done. Terry Pratchett. Really nice Aaron! However, when you adjusted the highlights you darkened the pants to match the sky. That’s fine, but it leaves the entire image with a gray light point. Not nice, especially as October glides past toward November. Same with the black point. This is probably the safest method, but you then need a global levels adjustment layer to get true black and white points.

I love your videos. I have learned so much. Quick question, I have a friend who wants me to add 2 people to an image. The image was taken outdoors in sunlight. The addition image was taken indoors. Will this technique help match these two completely different light situations? If not, any ideas on how or if I can match these images to the same lighting?
