In our search for delicious Asian foods to eat and inspire, we went to Manhattan where you can find many different types of cuisine including some of the best Japanese comfort foods that are difficult to find elsewhere. One morning, we made our way to a wonderful Japanese bakery called Takahachi Bakery for breakfast. They sold many different types of traditional Japanese baked goods as well as lots of French-inspired pastries. The one item that they were best known for was their matcha crepe. It is a rolled green tea crepe fill with sweetened red bean whipped cream.
The crepe was soft and tender and the whipped cream was mildly sweet with bits of crushed red beans spread throughout which gave it a fun texture and complimented each other perfectly. Luckily, the kitchen had large display windows to allow the customers to watch the bakers make all the delicious breads and pastries and we got to watch as they prepared a new batch of matcha crepes. Boy, are we glad that we got to see how they were made because now we can have them anytime we want! Now we want to share what we learned with you so that you can try this Japanese take on a classic French dessert at home.
