The Ford Escort RS2000 arrived in the Matchbox range in 1978 in white. It wasn't until its final year of production in 1982 that it changed to green with Seagull stickers. While it was in the Superfast mainline with this design, it also featured in the Trailer Packs line with a Seagull Gliding Club trailer carrying a glider within.
The RS 2000 was Ford of Europe's performance version of the second generation European Escort, pre-dating the US Escort which launched simultaneously with the third generation in 1980. It was equipped with the two litre Pinto engine and was visually different from the regular Escort. This was most noticeable on the grille, which was slanted instead of flat and featured quad headlamps.
Mine had front end that had been seriously gouged, a significantly bent front right wheel, and stickers in great need of replacement.
