Like the real R107 Mercedes-Benz SL, the Matchbox model had a long life too. Introduced in 1974, it went through a number of colour variations and eventually casting modifications in 1982 when it transitioned to the topless 6F SL. It finally left the mainline in 1983. This yellow variety ran from 1975 to 1978 teaming its black roof with an amber windshield.
The Mercedes-Benz R107 SL and C107 SLC Coupé were both introduced in 1971 with the SL the convertible two-seater (with rarely chosen option for a bench seat in the back) while the SLC a hard-top four seater coupé. The SLC ran until 1981, while the life of the SL extended through to 1989. Little changed of the design of the timeless R107 other than engine options during its lifespan as it went on to become the second-longest running series produced by MB after the G-Wagen.
My model was looking a bit hopeless with its missing soft-top and windscreen. It had a non-original sticker placed across its bonnet while the unpainted metal base that incorporated the front and rear end design of the model was very tired and dull. A new paint job, a polishing of the underside, and a reproduction window and roof left this SL looking far sleeker.
