Perfect timing..I just fill repaired wall arches and had to remove/hide water damage, mudded and all primed ready for topcoat. Was thinking I would add sand to the paint.... Thankful to catch this now. Lot easier to just reprime again with sand and avoid a zillion topcoats later. Subbed

I have some old texture I am trying to match that I was just going to spray some orange peel texture to with a hopper gun but now i want to try this instead. since it more closely resembles the perlite/sand wall texture my old house has. Going to use a big brush because I have a lot of it to do.

Finally! I am patching a textured wall that has this effect as well, we had a new French door installed and I am doing the drywall and patching/painting part myself. I hate it when you can see the difference in the textures, new drywall is sooo smooth, going to go to my hardware store and hopefully they will have this. Can real sand be used? Can you roller it or does it need to be brushed?

The texture match and can be a real pain in the butt. There is a synthetic sand that you can buy at any major box store or any paint store. Don’t use real sand. Put it on with a brush so you can pull the grains around.

Hi, thanks for your video. My question is where can I buy that sand to add to my primer?

Hi, thank you for this video. I am planning to paint with my sprayer, can I still use this method, then give my patches a couple paint coats with a brush, then spray the whole wall? Will I get the same effect? Thank you 8/15/24

It won’t match the texture as well as if you use a roller. the sprayer will leave them more flat look. Hope this helps.

How much sand did you add to the primer? Are there instructions on that sand container?
@joeschmo1516

How do you determine how much sand to add ? Say like per gallon of paint.
@KapikInc
2 жыл бұрын
Trial and Error really. I start small, mix it in and try it in the primer. Then Add more if the texture doesn't look like it's matching. Remember, you can always add more, but can't take it out of the paint if you have too much.

Would adding sand to the primer affect the primer and what it does? Would adding to paint be better?
@KapikInc
9 ай бұрын
Nope. The primer will still stick. I add it to the primer in the case you need multiple coats to match the texture. Then you only need 1-2 coats of paint on the area.

Use a sponge and lightly blend it in. Or sand it till there's no ridge

How do you know how much sand texture to add to the paint?
@KapikInc
Жыл бұрын
Mix the recommended amount of synthetic sand into the primer. Usually it’s a recommended amount per gallon. Once you put a coat on, let dry. If it needs more texture, just paint another coat of primer.

What primer did you use? Thanks, Greg
@KapikInc

It was a simple Pittsburg brand drywall primer. Nothing fancy. But primer needed for sure so the paint doesn't flash.

What's the product used ???????
@KapikInc

It is a synthetic sand from the paint department at Menards. Any big box store will carry it in the paint section.

What is the ratio of sand to prime ??
@KapikInc
5 ай бұрын
The ratio is going to depend on the amount of sand that was in the original paint. Experiment with adding it to the primer, then paint a piece of scrap drywall and see how it turns out.

Didn't turn out the best...not very uniform texture throughout the wall...
@KapikInc

That can happen. Depends on how it grabs the paint roller.

Can I prime over the sanded spots if I have already painted over them or do I need to remove the paint & start over ?
@KapikInc
Жыл бұрын
Yes, that should work just fine. No need to remove the existing paint (unless it’s chipping and peeling)
