So many people just don't get it. Some of the comments are actually questioning the point of this method of slicing the bagel instead of the traditional horizontal slice. Sure, this isn't very practice but my answer would be that a KZitem video showing the bagel sliced horizontally would not be nearly as cool.

How long did it take you to conjure up this idea? Also, how many tries did it take to perfect it? Also, thank you for teaching me how to cut a bagel in two congruent linked halves, I wouldn't have ever thought of this idea before.

@@alext8294 It's still not practical. She goes on about how it's mess free, then ends up getting the spread everywhere and all over her fingers by the end. Just cut it in half; it's quicker, cleaner and doesn't make you look like a complete tosshat if you decide to cut one in the middle of the hotel breakfast bar.

its all one continuous cut that has to start where it ended. making 180 turns between each cut just makes it easier to keep track of how far he has to cut/where to stop

It's mathematical because you're actually cutting the bagel into two congruent halves, like it's said in the description. When you cut it in half normally, it's not two equal halves. That's all.

the surface area of the cut section is a lot greater than if you were to cut it straight in half, meaning a larger area to apply cream cheese, meaning a rrreeaalllly good bagel.

I really hate it when people say such ignorant things. The moebius transformations are extremely useful and is a fundamental part of geometry, relativity, computer graphics, and brain mapping, just to name a few...the information that can be gathered from this demonstration is very useful.

Think of it like the threads of a screw. A straight piece of round stock has X amount of surface area. Where as the same roudn stock, that has been threaded has MORE surface area. Same with these bagels.

No, because the twisting adds area. Imagine it twisted 1000 times, and it is obvious that the cut surface has greater area than with no twisting. If you are thinking of Pappus's centroid theorem, that assumes a surface of revolution with no twisting. But it can be generalized for the twisted cut.
