@@TyMarshall007 While the Mill Park incident was an extreme case, dog attacks are more common than most of us think. Monash University figures show that almost four Victorians are hospitalised daily as the result of a dog attack. And the numbers are rising, with a 56 per cent increase in attacks leading to amputation, broken bones and open wounds in the five years to June 2018. Surprisingly, most attacks happen in the home. Monash University’s Victorian Injury Surveillance Unit found that almost 57 per cent of attacks happened in homes, compared to just over seven per cent on the street. The RSPCA’s head of operations, Tegan McPherson, says dog attacks can happen for various reasons and the type or size of dog is not an accurate indicator that it could be aggressive. Aggression is often linked to training, socialising, owner behaviour, temperament and underlying health issues, There are steps you can take to keep you and your family safe: Never approach or pat a dog without the owner’s permission. If approached by a strange dog, let it sniff you and don’t make eye contact. Always supervise young children around dogs. Tegan says toddlers are the most at risk of dog bites because of the way they approach and try to play with dogs. “Throwing their arms around a dog, burying their face in them, climbing on their back - these are all things a predator might do and are seen as a threat,” she says. Learn to recognise signs that a dog might be stressed. Growling and barking are obvious but excessive yawning and holding the tail high or between its legs or laying its ears back can also be signs the dog is stressed and might become aggressive. A dog that freezes and stares is in the most heightened state of stress. If your dog is normally calm then starts to demonstrate fear or anxiety, consult an animal behaviourist or vet in case there is an underlying problem that can be treated. “Dogs can have pathological changes in the brain due to pain or illness which can trigger aggression,” says Tegan. If a dog lunges at you, turn sideways and use your arms to protect your face, neck and body, and use a bag or a jumper to create a barrier. If bitten seek medical attention, no matter how minor the bite, to prevent infection. When your dog reaches three months of age in Victoria, it must be registered with your local council and that registration needs renewal every April. If your dog hasn’t been registered before, it will also need to be microchipped first.

This was so fantastic to see! Mara grew up to be an intelligent writer and have loved her articles. Apparently she's still adorable! It was awesome to see Pam Ferris (Trunchbull) reenacting these scenes as horrid as ever as a gorgeous real person. You can really tell what a classic actress she is. Embeth Davidtz (Miss Honey) is still so beautiful and all the kids grew up to be so lovely! Really, thanks to the cast and production team for sharing this. This movie hit close to home for me when I was a little girl. I always felt very connected with the scenes where Matilda is alone in her dark room holding her doll tightly or crying over the pages in the book she was reading because that was also me as a little girl. I always wanted to escape and find my Miss Honey and I wished I had the powers Matilda had and the strength and courage she had to stand up to her parents and leave for a better life. Eventually I did, but it's hard to get closure when the people who are supposed to be your family leave emotional scars and trauma. It's always in the back of my mind how I lived a pretty dark lonely life as a child but I try to move forward hoping to erase those painful thoughts with my own family one day whom I will give the entire world to when I get the chance.

Rae I feel like you wrote my thoughts exactly! I actually like wearing ribbons in my hair now, "for strength", haha... I didn't have ribbon as a kid, so somedays my 30 year old self puts a ribbon in my hair cause I'm a big kid now and I can! ;) It's so hard when there's no closure, though. I entirely agree. I wish... Yeah. I hope you find peace in your life, and find joy each day, however tiny it may be somedays. I'll always believe in love and kindness, even if it seems naive... I know the darkness and pain is out there, I just have to find love and hope, ya know? And if you look hard enough, there's always something there. I'm rambling, I just... I honestly WOULD get in trouble for reading, crazy as that sounds, and someone once said I had a "horrible" childhood, and I fortunately disagree... Much of what happened to me WAS horrible... A vast magority, even... But I wasn't always miserable, there were happy moments, sitting on the swings at recess, a book in my lap, willing myself to grow wings and become one with the sky... And I'm typing that and realizing it doesn't sound like it's a happy memory, exactly, but I guess the essential part was that, even when I felt completely and utterly alone, I was lucky to have my imagination, and even when I rarely spoke, I would mentally narrate my life, as if I were one of the heroes in my books, and just that way of thinking helped me continue to believe that my story and my life mattered, and it helped me keep looking for escapes, or imagining that my suffering wasn't in vein, because it was somehow helping protect some poor orphan children or something, and at the end it would turn out that I was a princess all along. The lack of closure really does suck, and I'm sorry you've had to face that same pain. I'm sorry you didn't get taken away and saved by your own Mrs. Honey... I feel like Mrs. Honey saved us in a way just by existing, and showing those of us who needed her, what a supportive caregiver was like. I didn't intend to write much in reply, just wanted to say I related strongly to your comment, now I just feel there's so much more to say, but I don't know how to wrap this up now. I guess just... It's nice to see this video, and to feel the sense of family they built on set, and it makes me feel less alone to see how that story continues outside the screen and the book, that those of us who grew up not knowing a safe, supportive, happy family in childhood can make our own families in the true friends we make. *hugs *

Matilda's one of those movies that everyone knows and love. It's so inspiring, and beautifully done. It got me thinking about how and why so many people love it, and I think it's because it's honest, and it shows. We see how a happy family lives; we see toxic relationships being torn appart; we see the "bad" people in our lives go away; these things are real to us, and we can see it in a more fun, theatrical way. So many movies fail to portrait what realationships look, even romantic movies, but Matilda got everything right, thanks to the cast of incredible "kid actors", and "adult actors"; the insanely talented Danny DeVito, not only directing and acting, but being "the uncle" to everyone, and all the people involved; together they created more than just a mere movie, they created art.

Mara was such a great child actress. And Danny and Rhea have been part of the pop culture of my life since childhood since I was younger than Mara was when filming this movie (I'll be 48 in 2 months). And the young lady who played Lavender is as beautiful now as she was utterly adorable then. All the former child actors look amazing! And I must take a moment to say that Embeth was a favorite actress of mine already even as far back as Sheila in Army of Darkness, but her role in Ray Donovan as a breast cancer survivor (which she is herself) was truly awe-inspiring. I pray that she is still doing well. Thank you so much for letting us catch up with the cast and crew of this amazing movie. I loved Matilda the book as a child and Matilda the movie as a young adult. And to my fellow New Jersey native Danny . . . from the It's Always Sunny Jersey Shore episode, thank you for adding "I'm sorry, Rum Ham!" to my vocabulary! I say it every time I slice a ham! 😁
