I came close to buying a antenna like this a year ago . I like the idea of the rotator that did not need a power source at the antenna . Every rotator I saw was way more expensive and involved allot more work . So to me the idea was pretty good . Now searching for the best deal on Amazon I came across Tyler and showed how these antennas performed . I was disappointed . I do have towers in opposite directions . Rotators seem to be a pain and multiple antennas . I settled for the insane gain by range experts Tyler recommended but I had to wait almost 6 months as his recommendation cleared house . It was worth the wait . Channel master recommended no antennas for my location and it did not look promising but I had a friend who was getting stations in the neighborhood so I made the purchase and got over a 100 stations . I did get a ge amplifier that I believe cleaned up some noise I was receiving with good signals . So in total I paid $125 where junk antenna I would have paid a quarter of that . Now similar antennas to my selection were more expensive so I feel I still got a deal . Have to give thanks to Tyler showing me the light and guiding me to this antenna .

I have this antenna, and like you I do not recommend it. A neighbor has one for several years, and he says his works well. We’re about 45 miles from the towers, with about 20 miles over water. We both receive all channels pretty well. In my case, the connector for the coax is defective, and the coax has to be held a certain way for the central wire to make contact. The built-in amp worked okay, but I don’t like it built-in for the reason you outlined. While the built-in rotator seems nice, it is very unpredictable, both in precision, and the direction it turns. Sometimes the CW button turns the antenna CCW, and sometimes it turns CW. Sometimes the CCW button turns it CW, sometimes CCW. It’s totally unpredictable.

Antenna Man, have you done any reviews on antenna types like the Channel Master CM-4221HD? This antenna type is very low profile and can be quite stealthy if installed without a tall mast. I've used the older version of that CM model antenna for years in the north San Diego county area with a CM preamp feeding a 100foot RG-6 coax cable to my garage that has a 4way splitter to feed the old coax in my house walls to rooms with TVs. Even though that antenna is designed for UHF and I get good signals on the local stations on UHF, I also get decent signal and SNR levels with it on the two local VHF channels in my area (8 and 10). Also it has a much wider beamwidth reception angle than other types of antennas. From my house, there are two different broadcast tower locations for the local TV stations - about 60degrees apart and I can receive them well with aiming it in the middle about due south, so no need for a rotator! I mounted the antenna using the Channel Master CM-3090 mount attached to the wood edge off the back roof of my house. My house is near the top of a hill so I have high elevation fortunately without needing a tall pole. Other houses below me are not so lucky.
@AntennaMan

That's a dedicated UHF antenna. I no longer review dedicated VHF or UHF antennas as most areas have VHF and UHF TV broadcasts. You're likely getting the two VHF channels with it because you're in a relatively strong signal area. I have reviewed several larger Channel Master antennas that you can find on my KZitem channel below: kzitem.info/door/PLa4W1QMIBkFHdxAhcntyCBjkZlOLCxn74
@donb7574

@@AntennaMan Yeah its designed as a UHF antenna, but I believe the newer version of that model antenna may have added a small VHF element to improve its VHF reception. I had considered adding a VHF only antenna as well since in my area the two VHF stations broadcast from one location and the UHF stations all broadcast from the second location (60degrees apart) so it would be easy to point the VHF antenna one way and the UHF antenna the other way and combine them with a reverse splitter. But I get such good results with my UHF antenna with a CM preamp I didn't bother!

the only way i can see a reception range of 90-95 miles being semi-reliable, is IF you're on a high mountain range, trying to tune in to TV stations broadcasting from another tall mountain peak, or perhaps a situation like Denver: mountains to the west, flat as a pancake to the east... even lakes/oceans can't do much to help with reception beyond about 100 miles... otherwise, i think 60-70 miles is the most you can expect for reliable reception from full-powered stations. Glad you went to town on that waste of materials! Came for the facts, stayed for the fun! :D
