When you are using a large striker for your fero rod. I find it works best to hold the large striker still, against the tender and drawer the rod away from the tender. This focuses the sparks on the tender pile. If you watch this video you will see that a lot of your sparks are falling short of your tender pile.

I plant the tip of the blade spine on the stump and then angle the handle down till there is just enough room to slide the rod in. (If I can I’ll rest my thumb on the stump.) Then when I rapidly pull the fero rod back toward me the blade helps focus the spark shower onto my tender pile. One or two pulls is all I usually need to start fat wood shavings or most tinder bundles.

Good video. The pattern of the blade reminds me of a survival machete made in the late 70’s. It was made specifically for jungle/marsh environs and was very good at cutting medium to small (wrist sized down) green wood. I never tried it at carving/bushcrafting or did a “spin test” but the weight distribution should make it on par with this one.

To combat that momentum issue matt graham purposely designed the knives to be broad so you can get a second hand on the blade. I use the primitive bush knife, the primitive bush mondo, and soon will be using this machete. For times I need to carve/shave, you can grab the back of the blade and safely manipulate it with both hands in a similar fashion to a draw knife. Keep up the good work man and be safe!

Hard to tell from the camera angle but when you’re doing the machete stuff always cut at an angle. The green live stuff will cut much easier. Also, when able cut the branch or foliage away from the base. So try to swipe at the branch following along its path away from where it’s growing from.

Not the first Condor blade I've seen with a damaged tip. I've seen 5 Condor Bushcraft Parang's having a damaged tip (looked like it was banged straight into concrete, maybe worse against some solid steel object, tip bend was bend/crooked). It's like somebody at their workplace doing it on purpose. Sabotaging or something like it. No way it was from shipping. This has happened before that. I ordered many blades in the past. And Condor's were the ones with damaged tips.

Machetes are a very good tool in the South American and African jungles to clear a path, or chop off your neighbors arm. The blades are very ineffective for use in cutting down or chopping North American, and European forests. Unless you are just interested in making some sort of statement, a portable hand held wood saw is much faster, requiring much less precious energy, and calories.
@SurvivalOnPurpose

@youtubevoice1050
5 жыл бұрын
True. Well, partially. Saws do require quite a bit of energy, but they are efficient, for sure. With a machete you're not supposed to swing full force. You rather flick it mostly from the wrist and let the tool's own weight and sharpness do the job. But you're right, they are better suited for tropical/ subtropical environments.

It's a Smatchet. Actually used in the military. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smatchet )They have been around for a long time already. Design by Fairbairn. Matt Graham womanized it with some engraving but that's about it. Don't get me wrong. I like your channel and I also like Matt Graham and think he's the real deal and all, but this design is not his. He took an existing design. Nothing wrong with that since all blade shapes have been designed already. It would be nice if he was honest about it. Because what did he design? The engraving in leaf style?
@SurvivalOnPurpose
5 жыл бұрын
It is a good bit broader than a Smatchet, which is itself probably a derivative of a barong, which is probably a modification of something else, etc. My point is that there are really very few original blade designs. It is no different than the many different takes on a puukko knife or a bowie knife or a kephart knife or many others.
@StevanOutdoor
5 жыл бұрын
@@SurvivalOnPurpose Sure. That's what I mean and I think most of us when we point out it's a smatchet or barong. I don't think it's way broader www.reliks.com/tactical-survival-knives/oss-smatchet-knife/ Puukko means knife so puukko knife means knife knife but you are right. We use the term Puukko for the traditional smaller scandinavian style knife. I think the Bowie knife was a relatively different and new design but both the Kephart and Nessmuk are not. So it is Matt Grahams take on a Smatchet but he did not design the blade style and the blade style is not new. Even Cold Steel makes a Smatchet and a Barong. That doesn't mean we (or I) don't like you or Matt.

Exactly. They're excellent for bamboo and light chopping. For a certain type of terrain, they're the tool to have. Heavy chopping on the other hand, needs from the blade to have weight. Only thing I'm not sure about this, is that we didn't get to see below the shoulders, fast, rapid swings, with it. That's how you evaluate a machete. Not like he's doing after 9:35 with those above shoulder, wide and from a distance swings. Also only 10 swings, with a couple of them somewhat clumsy.
