I'm not rich enough for carbon, but I do have a Topstone 105 alloy. Cannondale has done a great job designing their Topstone line, but an even better job marketing it. Every time I see a video about a Topstone, I feel like I have the best bike in the world. Every time I ride my Topstone, I feel lucky to have one.

I've been looking at, reading about gravel bikes for a few weeks now. This week I've been watching and listening to KZitem vids on the Topstone Lefty. They've all heaped praise on the Topstone. I love my Cannondale Lefty 29er so I'm not surprised and the Topstone Lefty especially does look great.I trust and respect Matt's judgement. I just wish they were priced similar to Giant's Revolt Advanced 3 as I'm going to struggle convincing my wife I should have one.

I have Carbon 105. Owned for 3.5 months. Done about 1500 km. Negatives. The bike has been back to the LBS shop twice in that period. WTB rims are ok but the Formula freehub failed after 2 months riding. Got a new wheel. Heavy though!! BB30 creaks intermittently and there was visible scratches on the crank when the LBS tried to fix the loud knocking. Related ? Headset bearings will need changing soon. Good points. Smooth ride. Go all day and still keep up with chain gang on slicks (pre corona of course). ShimanoI 105 perfect as usual. Do not worry about offset dishing, I know a wheel change is unclear than a tire change but this bike can be an awesome all rounder. I got a new rear wheel from my LBS.

Mr. Natural Is it the alloy framed Topstone you’re referring to? That is a very different frame design with no offset.
@sargerobo5792

yeah, the AI offset wheels do require some specificity. You can't just change them out for any wheels you have. You have to do a redish of the rear wheel. However, as a bigger dude, I've found it pretty good because it seems to make the wheels a bit stronger and it allows me to run lighter wheels.

My only reluctance to that bike is the offset of the rear wheel. It is unique. If I wanted a 2nd set of wheels, I'd have to have them built. I couldn't just but a set off the shelf. Granted, it most likely isn't that big of a deal, I just get a little nervous with a proprietary part like wheels.

Gave it a hard core test ride over several days. Loved it although I did feel as it bounces a bit in the saddle but the wheels stayed planted despite that. Otherwise some of my quickest times on a closed singletrack /gravel course when compared to the Ibis Hakka, 3T Exploro, Cannondale CAADX, Salsa Stigmata, and the Topstone Alloy, The deal breaker though was the goofy 6mm offset for the rear wheel which would require me to have a set of proprietary wheels just for that bike. Not good for someone like me that has 3 gravel bikes and 7 sets of wheels depending on the occasion and weather.

No rear rack mount. Deal breaker. Kingpin suspension may be a service/maintenance/warranty problem long-term. Does not seem to do much. The Topstone 1 Alloy does not have these limitations, is more durable, and that's the one I bought. Good report from someone who actually rides it.

The real question here now is do I go for the Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon or this Cannondale Topstone 🤦🏻♂️ Topstone has shocks in the rear but the Diverge has 2.0 future shock in the front 😩 Im so undecided right now!! 🤯
@tadejjurkovic8819
3 жыл бұрын
I too am undecided between these two bikes and I've watched tons of videos and reviews on them. I got to find out that future shock requires maintenance quite often and Specialized advises (dunno how much of a marketing and aftersale hustle that is) to replace future shock after around 500 hours of riding, which is crazy. And future shock is expensive. Then again some riders of Diverge say they have no issues with future shock even after 2 years of riding. Dunno but anyway, due to this I concluded If I go for gravel it will probably be Topstone.

I’m still not sold on the gravel niche. More versatile to get a lightweight hard tail with semi-slick tyres. I have an Fsi 42t 11-36 and Schwalbe tyres. Faster off road and also pretty quick on road. Pivoted rear suspension... pointless? You need the bounce at the front end. #DontBelieveTheHype

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzitem.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

Can't see how that pivot point works tbh, it doesn't allow movement. Plus no colour choices. I'm leaning towards the Canyon Grail.
@CannondaleBicycles71
4 жыл бұрын
The movement comes from flex in the entire seat tube and seat post. The Kingpin pivot allowed us keep the rigidity in the bottom bracket for pedaling, but isolate the rider over bumps. It's certainly a unique concept when compared to suspension setups we're used to seeing on bikes... but then again, we don't do normal suspension.
