In Reverse is one of the Great Lost Albums! Its awesome! This stuff harks back to The Beatles.

The world needs more Matthew Sweet. Such a great songwriter and over all instrumentalist/producer talent !

Heard this song on the radio during highschool (around 99-2000). Started to listen to more of his music after that. Too bad not enough people have listened to Matthew Sweet.

The lead guitarist way over to Matthew's left, that's my college friend Pete! RIP, d. 2015. It's enough of a trip to see your friend on National TV. But it's even crazier to see him play the same guitar that he played dozens of times in my basement band parties senior year as well as countless other parties and gigs around Providence during college.

@@derekbaker3279 Yes, I know people with mental illness that have gained significant weight due to the medication they take. Still, Matthew is worryingly overweight and he should try to at least do something about it before he has a heart attack.

I'm not aware of any other live clips from In Reverse, I think I recall seeing him at First Ave during this tour and enjoyed it quite a bit. A little larger band, more singers and some new faces in addition to the solid guys like Ric, Paul and Tony. I thought he pulled off the larger production of the songs well live. I seem to remember Paul playing trumpet.

Sweet is actually touring my area soon but I'm not able to make the show. =( It's a shame there's not more live from IR since he toured in support of it. I'd love to see a live version of Thunderstorm, Future Shock, Untitled, Trade Places, etc... It's such an under rated MS album imo. I put it up there with Altered Beast, 100% Fun, and Girlfriend easily.

Why is there no other live performances, full concerts, bootlegs, etc from the In Reverse tour?! All I can ever find is live versions of What Matters because it was the single to promote the album. I want to hear Thunderstorm and other great songs live! I'd also like to see/hear a full show from the Living Things tour.

Do you have more live tracks from In Reverse? It's one of my favorite MS records but I can never find live stuff besides What Matters. Thanks for sharing!

He was very inspired by The Byrds, which featured three guitars, bass & keys, plus great harmonies. This album was his "Byrds" album, and this incarnation of his band really pulled off the dense sound of that sub-genre quite well !

@@derekbaker3279 trouble is; he did the same thing in support of Girlfriend, when he opened for the Indigo Girls. He had a fit on stage cause IG's audience didn't relate well to them.

@@mauriceortiz8817 I like the Indigo Girls & have seen them twice (first time was opening up for REM). I could see how why a crowd coming to see the Indigo Girls would have little interest in Matthew Sweet's sound, despite Sweet's love of harmonies.

@@derekbaker3279 yeah, they were really unfair to him. But, I brought it up cause he had too many guitars up there in that earlier time in his career. I remember when Prince opened for the Stones in LA and he was pelted with bottles. Someone, actually, nailed him in the head. The girls hiding under the keyboards. They only lasted three songs. Sad thing is that Prince and the Revolution sounded better than the Stones. It was racism and homophobia, ( Prince was pushing the Bowie gay vibe with his attire) Mick Jagger opened the Stones set by saying, " I wanna' eat you up, boys and girls" He didn't get pelted. The colesium cheered

Great songwriting but the final product was, regretfully, not uniquely sonic enough to filter through the Gin Blossoms and other Adult Alternative static of the 90s.

Good point. Although, IMHO, "In Reverse" was a very natural progression from Sweet's previous albums, I wonder if radio programmers, DJs & others in the industry felt that Sweet was not being authentically creative (just copying the Gin Blossoms, etc.), so they tended to dismiss the album.
