This is my performance of Maurice Duruflé's variations on the theme of "Veni Creator", the third and final part of his Op. 4 composition, following a prelude and adagio on the same theme. Duruflé published this piece in 1930 and dedicated it to Louis Vierne. This piece opens with a chorale arrangement of the theme, and proceeds with four variations. The variations often feature triplet figures and 3-against-2 polyrhythms. The final variation builds dramatically to a joyous climax and an ending "Amen" stanza, and the very end of the piece resolves to one of the greatest resolutions I've ever heard.
Liturgically this piece is best used with space for readings between each variation, but I find that listening to each variation in succession is fascinating for discovering how the theme changes and which voice it appears in.
I hope you enjoy this performance!

P.S.: I apologize for the slightly out-of-tune mixtures and reeds, as well as the fact that I'm playing a 20th century French composition on a Schlicker organ.
