I am from coastal region of maharashtra (Konkan region, although it's not in the heart of the konkan like ratnagiri or smth) who went on northern states' trip 4 times now. Saw shimla, manali, rohtang, nainitaal, masoori. Saw snow I think 4-5 times including at Rohtang, Gulmarg, Nathula pass & the zero point (near sikkim) and my gosh the climate at which these folks live... that pahaadi hava is no joke. You can easily feel yourself draining the 1st two or three days if you go any such top place that is up very high on sea level (Nathula was around 3000 smth kms from sea level). Some folks here were almost puking & such. After visiting these places i realized how lucky I am to be born near the coastal climatic conditions. It is hard to survive up above such height (unless you have that pahadi or sherpa blood in you). You can call me a freak for saying I'd rather prefer the humidity & monsoon here rather than to go back at such heights & live in the snow. Yes that fake snow at snow parks looks good. Heck someone might even enjoy the winter of Shimla-Manali but after going to these places I realized my body is just not made for this climate. It was only in Kashmir that I had a good time since the tour managers there actually gave us first 2 days of tour to just rest & get acclimated to the climate.

I felt my aukat when I tried to climb manaslu and came back even though I am a pahadi and climbed many small mountains . Hats off to you brother. The only thing matches you is that I am also a software professional. Looking forward to climb Everest when I save enough.
