@MuscularMario2300 yes and no. Luka's birthday is 2/28 Ant's is 8/5. NBA seasons are normally categorized by your age at the beginning of the season. So Luka turned 23 in February of his age-22 season when reaching WCF. It was also his 4th season like Ant. Luka also had a significantly worse roster that season than the '24 Wolves. Luka also made his third All-NBA 1st team that year and was 4th, 6th and 5th in MVP voting in those age-20 through age-22 seasons. Ant made his first All-NBA 2nd team this year and was 7th in MVP voting for the first time. It's pretty uncontroversial that Luka was better than Ant at the same age.

He plays well for a few weeks, gets dog walked by a team (and player) that he was supposed to put away, acts like a low class clown the whole time, but people are still committed to these hypothetical future scenarios with him. Edwards may be a top tier guy one day, but from what I've seen he could just as easily end up somewhere on the spectrum between J.R. Smith and Donovan Mitchell. NBA history is full of his type who didn't end up fitting the bill. And yes, I know he's "only 22". People who cover basketball take great care to remind us of that every 5 seconds.

the chet/wemby/porzingus/myles turner archetype i think is probably the most futuristic version of nba centers. they can play 4 out 1 in or 5 out. they aren't necessarily the "fulcrum" of the offense but can run the dho stuff well. but thats not all they do.. sometimes they are just spacers in the corner while a wing and a guard run two man. sometimes they pick and roll sometimes pick n pop. sometimes they're setting pindowns off ball - in which case they might still pop for an open 3 if their teammate is being guarded aggressively. if the d switches they can also turn around and seal for a post up. they also can post mismatches on switches on ball. defensively they have to protect the rim in the drop but also be mobile enough to provide help at the rim and get back out to challenge shooters beyond the y3pt line on the same possession. bonus points if they can effectively switch out on to perimeter guys. i think in general the future of every position in the nba is total versatility. the league wants two-way guys w size that can dribble-pass-shoot at every position. thats not always feasible tho - so teams prioritize the skillsets in potential additions that best compliment their own best player(s) ... if youre talking abt luka n kyrie, both of whom arent known for keeping guys in front, rim protection is a big deal. they both draw a lot of help at the rim so the lob threat is important as well. w lively in particular they prob love that he can make reads in the short roll when luka n ky get blitz'd too. if youre talking abt a guy like steph who does most of his damage on the perimeter maybe you sacrifice top tier rim protection n the lob stuff for a guy like dray who knows how to free steph beyond the 3 point line and read pick apart defenses in 4 on 3 situations if youre talking abt guys like jt n jb who arent virtuoso passers in traffic but are big enough to finish at a super elite level over any1 but the best rim protectors, you might prioritize pick n pop bigs that can space the other teams rim protectors and allow the js to attack the basket more easily whether its v the drop or a mismatch in a switching scheme. pick n pop bigs also make the passing reads easier which is important if you dont have a ture floor general that can manipulate every defense with their dribble penetration n ability to read the game.

Seriously. What's the point of calling out Mavs fans in particular? There's informed & ignorant fans for every team. If u ask any Mavs fan, I don't think they'll say Minny lost cuz of Ant. But hey, I don't speak for everybody & this fool can't lump everyone together. Might be some underlying hate in his heart for something Dallas related. I know for a fact that he ain't a fan of the Mavs & Luka ain't the best player in the league in his eyes....

The Mavs played true their identity and I was struggling to tell if the Wolves had one. I thought it was defense but boy was I wrong. Wolves game plan was sooory…Wolves came out feeding Gobert like he was Shaq or Tim Duncan was craaazy. Edwards player timid to start the game. Gobert should of been setting hall of fame screens for ANT and KAT or on the bench…I would have went with Edwards, Daniel’s, Kyle, Naj, and KAT as the money lineup…

Holiday was destroyed by Jimmy last year because of the size, same thing happened to Derrick white. Dallas just played the best defense in the nba and the 4ths best defense in okc. The frustration from Mavs fans re. Ant is the fact that, besides yourself and a few other media members, the WCF was all about what the wolves did or did not do. In my opinion, our defense gets little to no recognition. Go watch people like Mike Greenberg or Colin Clownherd. Rarely mentioned what the Mavs and their coaching staff were doing to affect them. It was “Ant’s only 22”. “The Wolves are inexperienced.” And don’t act like it’s ONLY Mavs fans that get sick of the one sided perspective.

Can Ant ever get to Jokic and Luka level of playmaking? The answer is no, that question is stupid. That's not his thing, almost no player has the same vision as Luka or Jokic and the ones that might have it, they show it right off the bat. And there is nothing wrong with Ant not having that, that's just not his game. Also, it wasn't the Mavs fans putting Ant down, it was a collective thing, mainly because the media (ESPN) overhyped Ant to a MJ-degree and way too soon, everybody came crashing down on him once the Mavs opened 2-0.

If cat had luka and jokic footwork he’d be unstable, instead of charging into people to get to the rim he needs to seal people off by the baske catch the ball head fake, spin throw a shoulder into the defender , pivot, better yet one leg shot. He has none of that in his bag. It’s either shoot a 3 pointer or drive to the rim. That’s why he’s so easy to guard the during playoffs

Why do people always act like these players that are in their early to mid-twenties are finished products of the player they're going to become? Tatum, Brown, Luka and Anthony Edwards are FAR FROM the players that they're going to end up being long-term in their careers. LeBron in his MID-THIRTIES wasn't a finished product. He has developed a 3 point jumper late in his career and he's one of the best to ever play in the NBA. Let these young men grow into the men and players they're going to become before saying that they'll never do this thing or that. I made that mistake about Luka earlier this season and regret it. I'm sorry about that Luka. Don't be ME in other words!

I disagree with the whole matchup thing about Denver being a better matchup against Dallas than Minnesota because to me the main reason Denver got beat wasn’t because Jokic was stopped he still got 29/12/8 on 60% Ts but really it was Jamal Murray being horrible for most of the playoffs is what got Denver beat and the mavs with DJ jr and pj Washington could’ve done what Minnesota and the lakers did to Jamal

Mavs have 3 advantages over Celtics. 1. Mavs played good defense every round and there offense has a been tested Celtics have not 2.Mavs are just better at closing games with Kyrie/Luka. Tatum/Brown dont want to get into a shootout they will lose. Celtics have more players that can hit shots. 3. The Mavs will dominate in the paint and rebounds. The only way I can see Celtics winning is by the team shooting at an elite level. The downside is they have not played any good defensive teams Kp will fold, Jrue will fold, Al Horford will get played off the court when he gets abused in PnR. White/Jrue defense is the only other advantage for Celtics
