Mavin Grandpa leads AMAN members to Badagry Slave trade route point of no return where slaves were shipped across the sea to the new world from where the Black music experience evolved until it became Hiphop. Mavin Grandpa states categorically that the black music experience in America is a product of appropriation of our cultural heritage encapsulated in our music which was enshrined in the soul of our ancestors who were forcefully taken away from our land as slaves against their wishes. This, in his opinion implies that Hiphop rightly belongs to us hence he is in support of the coinage ‘Afrohiphop’ as named by Junior and Pretty to be adopted as the authentic name of the Nigerian new wave music. A genre which controversially has been described in various terms. This will put to rest the genre identity crisis which should ideally be resolved by adopting the genre’s name as Afrohiphop.
