The Great Slayer Zavala does look rather sinister with that grin, but we need to accept the fact that whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather, he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank just outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

I have always thought, even with FFVII original, that Aerith knew what was going to happen before it all started, and it was her strength of will to face her fate that saved the planet. She saw it in the lifestream in the opening of the game. I think that in the Remake, she STILL knows, but Sephiroth is messing with the timeline, and Aerith sees that perhaps the future isn't set in stone and that maybe they have a chance to stop him, and in so doing, save the planet in a different way.

And when you realize Aerith knows the initial timeline...and see that she actually said Zack's name in the playground...she didn't do that in FF7-original. When Cloud defeats Sephiroth In Advent Children he says to Sephiroth, "Stay in my memories where you belong." Sephiroth responds by unfurling his wing and extending it wide to add emphasize to a statement, "I will never be a memory." Then he curls the wing around him self and fades into a plume of black feathers. Abandoning Kadaj as a failed attempt. Omni presence can't be confined to a memory. If I remember correctly Cloud actually had the physical capability to join SOLDIER but was to mentally weak to withstand the treatment, so when Hojo experimented on cloud and gave him the treatment he had mako poisoning but eventually recovered and then Zack died which traumatized him. He then became his literal living legacy and took his fighting techniques. This would also explain why Cloud actually killed Sephiroth at Nibelheim. I don’t believe they would just turn Cloud into Sephiroth since Cloud’s story is about him failing then succeeding against astronomical odds, while Zack is a traditional hero who is very kind and warm.

Started watching this and got EXCITED wanting to talk about my take on how square played with the 4th wall. I LOVE the fact that they chose to change up the game the way that they did. From the beginning seeing Cloud experiencing these premonitions spoke out to me. Once you walk into sector 7 (as someone who's played the original FF7) you're experiencing PTSD. We know the fate in store for sector 7 and square knows we're expecting it as well. I felt like the premonitions Cloud was experiencing , while not present in the original, were put in place for the player who experienced that trauma during the original (in my case 23 years ago). We all may as well have looked up at the pillar and reflexively shielded ourselves from the debris . It feels like while square was adding a whole new story element, however, beneath the surface they are turning to the player and acknowledging that we're having "premonitions/flashbacks". So I thought that was brilliant. So whether it was sector 7 or walking beside Aerith and feeling your own tears begin to well up. It was have if our trauma was being displayed on screen through Cloud. The next thing which BLEW MY MIND was the whispers. They were simply ANNOYING constantly getting in your way. The moment they showed up they were a NUISANCE. When i played the original again i was hurt by the sector 7 scene. Losing our crew and every time i played the game there after i would make a futile attempt to rush to sector 7 as if i could stop it from falling. I felt no different in the remake , however, this time we had the whispers who got in our way while i carried those same emotions! Desperately trying to change the events of the original game. The whispers persisted as if to buy enough time for the plate to fall and of course it happens anyway. Just like the original. We then find out they are meant to keep fate on track. THIS IS WHAT BLEW MY MIND, Once again, to me, it was as if square acknowledges the players yet again, thinking we may be able to change something and adding another story element that keep everything aligned with the original game. Also, it allows square to play around with the story and change certain things but have an element that will continue to keep it on the right path with the original. Not wanting Jessie to die but the whispers getting in the way long enough for her to hurt her leg and not go to the bombing of reactor 5 keeping her in route for the pillar scene. Standing in the way knowing players of the original feel a sense of dread, and as a twist mortally wounding barret which player would call bullshit on, but allowing their mechanic to re route the event back in line with the original. Essentially Square decided their fate in the original and whispers appear to be holding that accountable in the remake. All in all i believe square played heavily with the forth wall making this an even more AMAZING EXPERIENCE ! This definitely gives them room to do a lot with the next entries! AGAIN AMAZING!

What if the seven seconds comment from Sephiroth is referring to the cut scene where he kills Aerith. "Seven seconds until the end." see, i have my own theory within this vein of thought. TL:DR of it is the Lifestream doesn't just store the souls, and hence the memories of those who died in the past, but also those who would eventually died in the future. similar to the concept of an Akashic Record. If peeps know anything about the Fate Stay Night series, then you know how it goes with Shirou/Archer. basically, Seph knows how it's gonna go down (as it would in the OG game). But he's trying extra hard to change his fate (thanks to him being in the Lifestream + Cetra cells off the Jenova's cell in him), by interfering more proactively, which as a result has change the course to a minor affect (Biggs surviving for example), deploying his faction of Whispers. Future dead Aeris also deploys her Whispers to ensure the planet is saved (which is why you see some that are so gentle & helpful to the party). Nomura said the "Remake" in the game title has a second meaning, one of which is obvious to everyone. my theory on the second meaning; Seph is trying to remake his fate, and doing so has changed some details from the OG game.

@@yopeepthestyle8308 "and honestly. anyone who has played the original as a teen wouldnt be such a crybaby about an ending." I'd say it's quite the opposite. It's more likely many adults who can't come to terms with change. Some people just hate for the sake of hating. People have the tendency to like the first version they listened to, read, watched or played and look back at things with nostalgia, even if that old thing objectively wasn't any good. For instance, the ones who read an LN will be mad at the manga, the ones reading the manga will be mad at the anime, and the ones watching the anime won't understand why the first two can't just enjoy the great show. You can make a 1:1 copy and there'd still be people pissed, make a single change and people will be pissed. It doesn't matter what you do, there'll always be someone who is going to hate. It's impossible to cater to everyone. An original isn't necessarily objectively better, it's only of nostalgic value to those who've seen it at a young age and are emotionally invested in it. Many Star Wars fans hate the prequels to the point that they wish death upon George Lucas, even though they aren't really worse, and they are the way he imagined the originals if he had the techhnology back then. Watchmen the movie is almost 1:1 from the comics, yet many "fans" went nuclear, even though the one thing they changed was the dumb ending from the comics. Acting like it was nothing like the comics.

Jofrid aarsvold folkedal I guess I didnt make my point. Its not narrow minded to want the same thing but its absolutely immature to throw a fucking tantrum over shit like that. FF7 is my favorite video game of all time. Just like Max. And I also dont cry and whine about them not doing the exact same thing. We wanted a remake and waited for it. Trust me, you not the only that was a “fan” of FF7. Its also not a sequel, thats wrong. Its a remake with twist if anything. Its not a reboot and not a traditional 1:1 remake. My point is that Max, me and many others dont lose their shit and act like self entitled kids. We should be happy we got a remake. It doesnt matter if people cry for 30 years my dude, most games are not being remade and thats a reality. A studio isnt “bad” for not remaking a game lol its a company they will pursuit what they want to and they dont have to pump out any game the player base demands. We just decide whether we like it or not. So bringing it back, I understand fans being disappointed in FF7. But if you are an adult and you whine like a little bitch and blame the directors for not having made a 1:1 yep that is narrow minded in my book. You forgot that Square is a company and not your buddy boy. Even if FF7 wouldnt have been remade as an adult its not a reason to act like a 5 year old that didnt get his cookies. People can disagree but Im so sick of folks being so goddamn self entitled. There is a difference of an opinion and being a crybaby shit. All i can say is that Im rather open minded as Max. I understand if you dont like it or would have preferred a 1:1 remake. But you cant justify people acting like absolute garbage. Thats my take on things. Take it or leave it. No harm done

May the Science be with You well you just made my point. I am simply not like those man babies then. I grew up with FF7 it was the first game game I bought for PS1 in 97. Your entire paragraph was just examples and explaining nostalgia. Yes, I agree with you. Nostalgia is part of it. Theres a difference in character nontheless. I loved the old Star Wars movies as I grew up watching them. The new episodes werent as good but I was NOT like those fucking idiots that hated on Lucas because their opinion was he destroyed the Star Wars franchise. Honestly. Someone sending a death threat to Lucas and try to argue he is an adult is pitiful. Whoever threatens someone with death because of a fucking movie is absolutely mentally deranged and you cant argue otherwise. Awh, I loved that movie. But now the prequels werent as good. Lets kill the guy who created the universe we love. 🤦♂️ and because we didnt like the ending of GOT lets torch their studio. No sane adult is acting like that, end of story. People have a tendency to be self entitled and feel they can act like douchebags and shitting on the very bands, actors, directors and studios they want whenever. As I said before, there is a fine line between having an opinion or disagreeing and acting like a 5 year old. I agree that you cant cater towards everyone. The difference is some people realize that and others dont and feel like everything has to be their way as if their opinion is absolute. You really think Max would act like a 5 year old if a game doesnt do things the way he wants. He is over 40 and acts his age. He doesnt like shit studios do and critics them but he doesnt lose hit composure. As you said, some people just hate for the sake of hating. If anyone doesnt like the remake thats fair play. But the Nomura cries and all this bitching isnt necessary. I rather theorize and have a discussion and thats just me

As a person who's new to Final Fantasy, my biggest issue was Sephiroth. I literally had no idea what evil things he did, what Cloud's relationship with him was, and why they had to defeat him. I had to watch reviews explaining it all. The game doesn't convey his story well at all despite him being a major villain. The ending had me super confused. The backstory with Sephiroth is explained in the beginning of the next part, right after you reach the next town. The original is just one game, so it's in there. That prior to that that he was a hero in the war against wutai and later thought to be dead.

I understand that knowing a bit of backstory helps, but as a game with such well-developed characters, it seems odd that the major villain would be one that wasn't shown that development. It wouldn't have been hard to add an early cutscene of Cloud and Sephiroth's history, how Cloud knew him as a hero followed by his betrayal, and then one later on to show what Sephiroth's intentions actually are, instead of having him randomly showing up taunting Cloud then going away. They did an incredible job with the other characters without us newbies needing to look up any previous lore; they should have done the same with Sephiroth too.

In chapter 14 when you see the character's resolutions, you see Aerith in a super serious mood (okay she's being held captive but would she really still act like that while seeing Cloud again?) and various expressions that tell you she's NOT the same Aerith we've been playing with, she'd never say stuff like "Everyone dies" and look at you with those eyes that are not passionate and curious. She tells you to not fall in love with her because it's useless, because she knows you won't be fucking able to prevent her from dying no matter what. When Cloud says he's coming for her she pauses for a moment. That was the original FF7 Aerith. And our current Aerith knows much more than she lets us know.

Wait wait wait, maybe the scene with Zack, was just them showing that the CURRENT timeline was affected along with Stamp. I would assume it was Sephiroth's doing since he seems aware of the previous timeline. So, since Sephiroth did "something", the current timeline was affected in the following ways: Zach lives, Biggs lives, and Jessie lives, and the design of Stamp and likely among other things.

@@Asiankido I'm actually not sure if any of their memories would be affected to be honest. It is up to how they write Zach in. I’m interpreting it as an alternate timeline, because the explosion at the end happens at the same time of the ending of the game and Zack’s last stand their synchronized, not to mention that the Stamps are different. And when Zack walks past Aerith with Cloud you see her stop as if she can sense him implying that that specific moment just happened in real time as well. I have a weird feeling that since Sephiroth is as if he has control of the livestream now he can hop between dimensions or something, he definitely can time travel as I’m pretty sure it’s the Sephiroth from advent children we have in the remake and that’s why he has so much knowledge of the past because he’s been through it all already. If it’s not an alternate timeline then maybe that explosion just marked a major change in history and that’s why it happened at Zack’s last stand and Aerith was sensing it all happen at that specific moment in time as it was happening, I don’t even know anymore dude

I'm with you on the separate timelines, I got the same feeling that Aerith sensed Zack walking by at that moment. I think they main game is going to stick to the core of the original story but they will have to fight moments of fate, much like the ending of the remake, which actually affects Zacks timeline.... valkyriedown I know right? Wow what you said actually makes a lot of sense! I can definitely see that playing out. There’s so many questions to be answered now, their really turning everything we know about FF7 upside down. Like if they are separate timelines, what’s going to happen with Cloud in our timeline and Cloud in Zack’s? Will they ever be able to meet or would that cause a time paradox? And the real question I had right off the bat is that since Zack can apparently survive his death now, can Aerith do the same? That would literally be a game changer (one I really hope comes true, imagine a happily ever after with Zack and Aerith together and Cloud and Tifa together, sorry CloudxAerith shippers but GOALS). And let’s say they’re not separate timelines and it’s all happening in one, will the characters be aware that they have changed and will they get teleported to where they should be now that their stories are different or will nothing happen currently and they will continue on like regular? So many damn questions lol
@DeeplyBroken00

I was imaging, watching the ending back again... What if the shot we got of Biggs being alive (and possibly Jessie) was of the same alternate time line as Zack being alive? Like, its not that the time line we are following with with Cloud and co. has Biggs and Jessie being on deaths door and miraculously somehow being found and alive after the collapse, but rather an alternate timeline where Zack lived and was involved in the events of ff7 which lead to them surviving that whole thing. Also, I am not in the boat that we are going to be interacting with or playing any part of an alternate time line with Zack, etc. I feel like seeing that and the Biggs scene was more of an illustration of the idea of the 'time lines' and that our crew was stepping onto one of many different versions of events that permeate the universe. I could be wrong, but if the creators are planing on still focusing on telling the story while hitting the major beats of the original, then I think we will remain with our crew.

They _have_ to be dead in OG Cloud's timeline, because the plate collapsed and the Whispers wanted them to die as they weren't saving them like they did Barret after getting stabbed by Sephiroth; the plate collapse happens _before_ Cloud & chums *destroy destiny,* so Biggs and Jessie are squashed smears of meat somewhere in the rubble of Sector 7. And no, I refuse to believe the Whispers suddenly saved them during the collapse and whisked them away somewhere, as their deaths were vital to carrying on this "original timeline" they were trying to preserve. Basically, if the Biggs we see _isn't_ from Zack's timeline they've already fucked up the story with time travel nonsense and don't seem to grasp the basics of how time works.

I can see now what people mean thinking back on the game. The cut scenes where they are seeing the future, which was not in the original, meaning Sephiroth already has been through the events and the whispers are revealing it to them because it is what is destined to happen. But regardless, what makes it even more dumb is that Zack's events aren't happening concurrent with the events in Midgar. They happen after, so they're changing not just the future but the past... Again I say, "uhhhhggg" I loved the game, but I guess I blocked out this idea of a possibility. I also played with the Japanese audio and English subtitles, so maybe I wasn't reading closely enough to get the hints.

A year later and we now know that the devs have confirmed that the big story stuff of the OG FFVII will not be altered in any way (the things that make it FFVII) but that things leading up to it and around it can be much bigger, given more detail, and fleshed out, just like what they did with Midgar here in the Remake Part 1 -- they added details and just made things go deeper. That's what they'll do with Part 2; they will give us fresh things we've never seen before but will not eff with what makes FFVII the heart-breaking story that it is.

The moment I finished the game, I came to a few realizations: 1) that this isn't a full blown Remake. It's a Sequel. Aerith's foresight pairs between her last appearance in FFVII Classic, as Meteor is falling. She's seeing that throw the lifestream (because Ancient) and by being aware she becomes aware of the Plot Ghosts. Sephiroth's entire air and aura match Advent Children. This is Sephiroth aware of all of it because he's also in the Lifestream. 2) The ending of FFVII might have been the BAD ending. This might have been Sephiroth skewing things to make AVALANCHE want to beat the plot ghosts, but the characters certainly get the impression that they fail. They don't have all of the answers, so this may be up to interpretation. 3) Sephiroth needs Cloud. Cloud is very clearly on Seph's mind a lot. He's able to manipulate him, like a clone, but he's also giving a sales pitch here. "I need you to leave, I need you to live!" And while this may just be Seph fucking with Cloud's spikey-headed ass, but if this IS AC-Era Sephiroth, or at least AC-era Informed Seph, he may need the last Clone standing for his final game plan. Which leads me to... 4) Aerith MAY survive, but CLOUD may die. I think the only way we're going to see Sephiroth truly defeated is if ALL Jenova infected people are taken off the board. That means Cloud, and now that means Zack. thank you, Max, for sharing this experience. Thank you for your channel. Shine On.

ALL of this sounds legit, especially the third statement about Sephiroth 'needing' Cloud. I don't know...Sounds like one of those yaoi kind of relationships that's CLEARLY one-sided :P But you're right. Despite being all powerful and God like, Sephiroth is a VERY lonely individual. That's where Cloud comes into the picture...To keep Sephiroth occupied so that he doesn't die from/of mental boredom.
@Nanarachouilla

After watching it all again and re-reading a bunch of stuff, here's what I've gathered/came up with: 1/At the end of FFVII Sephiroth is defeated but also dissolved in lifestream. 2/The end of FFVII is a neutral ending: not good for Sephiroth, but not good for Cloud and the party either : Aerith is dead, Midgar probably destroyed, and humanity may be wiped out? The ending is only good for the planet. 3/In the Remake, 3 entities are aware of future events: Sephiroth, Aerith and the ghosts. 4/At the end of FFVII, the last scene shows Holy and Lifestream fighting meteor. With the energy gathered here, somehow the will of Lifestream with Sephiroth (Aerith too? since she's linked to the lifestream) are thrown back in time. Maybe it's the actual power of Holy? 5/ As you said the last scene shows Aerith, just like at the beginning of ff7 Remake... and 7 seconds later the end credits. Original ff7 lifestream, thrown back in time, becomes the plot ghost in the Remake timeline. They try to accomplish the original neutral ending. Future Sephiroth is here too, but very weakened. Initially he is just able to manipulate Cloud through visions, e.g. to delay the encounter with Aerith, and to fuck up the events. As we weaken and destroy the plot ghost throughout the game (and thus the original Lifestream) , the original Sephiroth in not anymore merged with it, but instead takes the upper hand over it. Once we've killed the boss ghost, we see Sephiroth absorbing the Meteor and controlling some ghosts (I don't think we've actually seen him controlling ghosts before...). Absorbing the power of both lifestream and meteor is the initial goal of Sephiroth in ff7. That's also the moment when he start to physically fight us : it seems like he's indeed back to full strength. Notice however that Cloud is attacking Sephiroth, and not the other way around. 6/In the final battle we are just under the meteor. The whole remake may actually take place during the last 7 seconds of the original ff7? 7/ And finally about the Zack scene, and why Sephiroth needs Cloud.. I just like your explanation a lot!

I wouldn't put much stock into what the Ultimania says that extends beyond part one. After all, no one expected the Remake to go all Rebuild of Evangelion on us. Look it took me a long time to finally beat the game which allowed me to watch Max again but just... god damn did I love watching his whole play through and this immediate post-ending rant. It echoes basically exactly what I thought in my head. Those arbiters of fate (whispers) are essentially trying to keep the story true to FFVII the original and our new FFVII:R characters + Sephiroth are literally fighting to take this story in a different direction. I expect major plot points to be the same but I also expect HUGE surprises. My biggest thing now is... will Aerith die? If they want a hardcore emotional reaction from their audience after we've spent 100 hours with the character beautifully brought to life through animation and voice then... yes she probably will die. If they really want to take the story in a new but similar direction? Good chance she lives honestly... and I'm so excited to see how they deal with all that.

About Aerith, I think she will die but it won't be a cutscene. I think it will be a boss fight against Sephiroth where we can't win. Specially because Sephiroth keeps saying how Cloud "can't save anyone" so I think she will die but this time Cloud (and we as players) will give our all to stop it and it will just hurt when we see that it can't be done.

My favorite theory so far is the Cait Sith one! When we see Cait, there is only the cat puppet. When Wedge is thrown out of the window, we don't see his death and we can still hear him talking when the screen fades out. Since they put a LOT of effort showing him carrying cats throughout the game, my guess is that he survived the fall and was saved by Reeve and the Mayor, but was somehow left paralysed. I can clearly imagine Reeve using his technology to create the fat puppet so Wedge can still help his friends at distance, making Cait Sith a duo instead of a solo.

Okay, here's my two cents. Sephiroth in this game is the same Sephiroth, or at least a Sephiroth that has experienced, Advent Children, this is partially proven by the flashbacks when the giant Whisper thing breaks after killing one of the elemental ones and everyone gets the vision of Red XIII running, which is a clip directly from Advent Children. This is further evidence by Sephiroth being all about Cloud, when in the original FF7, he kinda wasn't, he was all about JENOVA, "Mother," and going to the Promised Land himself. Furthermore, the whispers themselves. The Whispers seem to be entities that protect the flow of the timeline as it should go, trying to stop anyone that wishes to alter that timeline. However, as stated by Aerith, Sephiroth is unaffected by them, but they try to stop him anyways, because that's their job. They are trying to stop Sephiroth because Sephiroth knows of the events that happened and led to his downfall in original FF7, specifically Aerith casting Holy from within the lifestream itself. This is why the Whispers did not appear in the original game, because Sephiroth didn't fuck with time, nothing could change fate, and thus everything went as fate decided it should. (I mean also because of they had to think of an idea to make Remake more interesting, but you get what I mean) However, now that Cloud and the gang has destroyed (seemingly) the Whispers, Sephiroth has full reign to do whatever he wants to the timeline. Here, Sephiroth also displays abilities he only showed after absorbing the lifestream in original FF7, specifically the abilities of psychokinesis, as well as an ability he did not display until Advent Children (in the timeline at least), the one wing, the namesake of his boss theme(which is also best in Advent Children IMO.) The only resemblance of this wing he showed in FF7 is in his Safer form, where his right arm was a giant wing like thing. anyways there's my 2 cents IG, if you have any thoughts on this, feel free to comment and discuss.
@RadinV1

I don't think there is any LITERAL time travel involved, that would mean there would be not just one Sephiroth from the future but also one from the present and that direction doesn't seem likely to me. I think this is present day Sephiroth who simply learned about the future through the lifestream, that seems more likely and less convoluted
