It's simple, bigger or better wheels and you need more torque to move it... This is what I don't like about Snowrunner. L should have more torque, not H. L- the most, L+ a little less, but still more than Auto or H. You could also check H, there is much more torque there.

Contrary to popular believe, tyres don't have the most grip when they don't slip. They have the most grip when they slip at a certain threshold. Of course this varies greatly, but having your setup whether irl or games aimed at no slip won't give you the most grip. Talking about tarmac or other closed surfaces. But even on dirt you want slip, but explaining that takes too much words for a comment.

What would happen if you changed gears when the speed is similar? During the first test on the OHD I tires, the change from LOW+ to LOW gears occurred when the P12 was going 0.8m/s, while with the JAT it was 2.2m/s. If both were changed during a similar speed, what would be the result? The same thing happened with Kenworth. The gear change from LOW+ to LOW on the MHS tires occurred when it was going 1.3m/s, while with the 963 it was changed at 2.1m/s. Based on this, I believe this test is disqualified.
@NProvince

Ya I was a tad late on that switch on The OHDs, but no matter my provision they still froze on this hill. I’ve tested this off stream which is why i was confident in these findings on live stream. So you’re talking about a target speed, but that was just a speed I was planning to Switch. Also keep in mind, I was on stream monitoring chat while doing all this at the same time. The OHD test was running fine and abruptly dropped off, but the result in any test is the same. I’ve run this plenty of times. This was done on a live stream. Run the test yourself. This already has been confirmed by other testers.
@Mineiran

I will test this on gameplay; it is definitely very interesting, for sure. The concern is how the maps with hills in Showrunner are made. Basically, we don't have a "clean" hill like on this map test. There will always be rocks(with almost zero grip for any tire), deformations, corners that make us lose momentum, bumps, etc. If the hill has any mud or deep mud before, we can get stuck due to the mechanics of as much wheel spin, less grip we have and more the truck digs. But it's still very interesting.
@NProvince

This is a test strip yes, but the principle still remains and the problems with trucks locking up also remains an issue. Other testers have confirmed that this has made a lot of lower P2W trucks useful.

So, in real life, tyres don't spin perfectly with the surface. They slip, going around corners and in straight lines (accel and braking). There is an ideal ratio of slip where the tyres provide them most grip. I have no clue how well, if at all, that SR models this, but the theory checks out. You can literally have too much grip, where a vehicle, truck in this instance, is power limited.
@nathanroth6240

I dont think so because better p2w would also produce better pulling power (by having more availble p2w overhead) and acceleration. You wouldnt just have one and not the other. I beleive you would see increases in both. At what increments? That probably depends on the gearing as well

1:55 this is exactly what i've been experiecing with the P12 lately. I thought it just semeed ridiculous for a truck that should be... so powerful to struggle that much, even on much less steep hills than the one showed here. This video is 7 months old but could you give me your opinion on the Pacific trucks family and other similar trucks with such lower power to weight ratio? Should they be buffed to compensate or is downgrading tires the way to go? It just sounds a little unfair that this thing can get out performed by smaller trucks. Oh also... what's the name of this test map on the mod site?
@NProvince

I do think the Pacific trucks should be helped out some for sure, but not too much. As of now, downgrading tires is the way to go and it’s actually feels good in practice. Also the test map is private that a friend owns. On previous streams of season 13 you’ll see me use the P-12 with all terrain tires and have a lot of success. I understand there may be conditions where too much grip is detrimental to progression, but somehow I have a hard time understanding how you can move up such a steep incline by having less grip with trucks that have low power-to-weight ratio in the first place. This is one of those things where I'm never sure if it's "just a game thing" or if the same conditions are effectively applicable in real life. Thanks for this video, though, it's all very interesting! Cheers! //Rick
@NProvince
7 ай бұрын
Hey Rick. So you're right, this is really just for certain conditions to make low powered trucks useful in conditions on slopes. This is an exagerated test for sure, but its just to show folks that the P12 and other trucks can be made better in these situations. Also I think you're right on the fact that its just a game thing. IRL you would always choose grip logically, but no one would take on grade (slope) of this sort with that tonnage. SR trucks can do some crazy things i guess lol
@Lord_Verminaard
7 ай бұрын
So I was messing with this the other day, in a situation where the P12 hauling two loads of medium logs got axle freeze. I edited the torque of the truck (gave it about %40 more) and tried again, the same thing happened. Next I doubled the torque and attempted the same test and it STILL happened. With double the torque the thing probably would have had a higher power to weight than anything else in the game so there is still something I am not understanding. Also do you know what the Angular Velocity delta is representing? I see in the game files a parameter with the engines called "MaxDeltaAngVel" but from what I have seen it is set to .01 for every engine and I am not sure what it does. The P12 specifically behaves like the clutch is let out too soon or something.
@NProvince
7 ай бұрын
Hmm that is really crazy information there. So to my limited knowledge the angular velocity is essentially a wheel speed and with that speed is a torque value. Im sure you already know that so with low gears the aim is to try and stay at 100% or max speed in that gear to achieve the best torque from that setting. Seeing that 40% more power still stalled... Is kinda wild!

Always advocated for the 963's unique tires... As i advocate for a lot of the unique tires in game. A lot of this could be more intuitive if they just did things in a more normal fashion with other driving games (and how things actually work). My latest frustration has been the lack of properly working suspensions in the game, almost none of it works correctly. Lots of mod trucks from the "better" devs have properly working suspensions. Pure lazyness from sabre. Ready for another little tease? I keep dropping in here lol. Tire weight has zero effect on the ability of the truck to move under its own power unlike an external load or body. Should try some tires that weigh 50,000kg each... :P The devs use this to artificially handicap or buff trucks depending on tire set access. The above case is a bit extreme and doesnt work great on deep mud, but its funny on hard surfaces.

interesting. How about testing smaller tire diameters? Smaller tires should have better gearing right?

So gearing is around the same because the gearboxes are set. the wheel speeds might differ I believe pending on wheel size

no I mean using smaller diameter tires provides better gearing for pulling because of the shorter lever that a smaller radius provides. Has nothing to do with the gearbox. @@NProvince

I mean it could have an effect perhaps

What about the other p12 all terrain tire? Not the jat ones

Just looking at stats, those have 0.2 lower mud rating, so prob the jat is slightly better all-rounder.

I've tried those as well, they worked as well, just not as well. Could be because they had more ground pressure being a single tire perhaps

What about uphill in mud? I guess you still want mud tires then?

I think that part depends. For most of the YEAR 3 maps, I think ATs are gonna be ok. Also alot of these heavier trucks arent gonna suffer much with a downgraded tire
