Instead of trying to change their ways for the next time they get out to be a productive member of society they'll go back to the same things that got them there in the 1st Place. Only once they've had their entire freedom and liberties stripped from them will they pickup the Bible or Quran and try to change their ways. Isn't that bizarre? After a hundred tries, and not making right choices after getting multiple 2nd chances, they will then find religion when they are given no more chances. Time and how you use it is one of the most important keys in life.

But I was in jail for a year and half for trafficking and supply with other small possession charges etc and I knew a guy who shot two people (didn’t kill them) and got 9 years head sentence and 3 1/2 bottom which means if you please guilty you serve a quarter of your sentence depending your charge and how much time. Murder is still 25 matter what or if they consider you SVO (serious violent offender) you serve around 80%, I know people who were found guilty of attempted murder and got 12 years had to serve 8-9 and than I see Americans get 20-40 sometimes more for attempted murder, I ain’t ever gonna complain about the Australian jail/prison system

Sounds like the gang members have help from staff or government officials . Rules need to change . If they are caught communicating and giving orders to gang members while serving time , their privileges are taken away , meaning no outside visitors or correspondence . A prison like Alcatraz needs to be opened , let them go out in the yard , watch TV, read books and take courses , but absolutely no communications with the outside world . They should be classified as terrorists . If the government really wanted to obliterate the gangs they could. But that takes money . Governments can go after the gang money and tie them up in State and federal courts for years . Criminals of this caliber have to be put in a facility where they can only see family under strict watch ! They may see their lawyers if prison officials and the DA believe its absolutely necessary . The lawyers they see would have to be approved by the prison and the State . Don't lock them away for 22 hours a day , just put them in a facility where there are only the harshest criminals , but no contact in any way with the outside World.
