Sadly our studio uses the "grey side", Maya. We all hate it as we work on Macs and it crashes ALL the time! We have about a zillion Maya files but if we knew how to get them onto C4D formats we would jump ship in a heartbeat. :-( Great work anyway all yous lot!! :-)

Do you have a script or anything? Most of our files are .ma .mb format. As I say, we’d LOVE to stop using Maya, it’s just, the sheer number of 3D files we have. C4D looks very cool! If there is a way, we’ll almost certainly do it..

Respectfully, while showing the capabilities of the app, this does not do a positive service to those who are interested in the field or in the process of learning about building such models. There should be an explanation that these were hundreds of clips by different companies using thousands of man hours EACH, and that many of them are quite complex and would take many people many hours/months to complete. These people have received specialized training and spent YEARS focused on just this type of work, as opposed to the multitude of other specialties in visual effects like compositing or 2d animation, for instance. Wowing neophytes with these clips is cute, but is not totally transparent in the amount of time and years of work each clip entails using extremely complicated software.

Some aspects were done in cinema 4d. A lot of it was done in Maya and houdini, as well as in-house software. There were more than one VFX houses working on the film all using their own workflow.

Hey...not a fanboy...Just broke... What's everybody's opinion on doing all this using blender? #no hate C4D
@SynthAir

Hey! I'm a looong time C4D user - it's probably been 10 years now - but started learning Blender about 1.5-2 years ago. I really enjoy both C4D and Blender, and saying one is better than the other would depend on what you were intending to use it for. Both are very full-featured and can be used to create AAA-quality visuals, most of the difference is in workflow. Blender is probably somewhere near being the least intuitive of available 3D design software, while in contrast to that Cinema 4D is among the most intuitive. I could write a whole page of pros and cons, but if you tell me what you're interested in (e.g. architectural visualization, animation, modeling for games, technical modelling, etc.) I'd be happy to go into more detail on that. :)

Product Advertising, Mograph, and a lil bit of animation...
@SynthAir

For rendering realistic depictions of products both are equally capable. C4D will certainly allow you to achieve more realistic results with a more shallow learning curve though. As for abstract and other creative effects, C4D's MoGraph is far more robust than Blender's stock offerings, and is miles ahead as far as intuitive design goes on this front. Most will struggle to create effects in Blender that can be created in C4D, with Mograph, in a matter of minutes, or even seconds. I haven't used Blender's animation tools much, but for basic animation (e.g. moving, rotating, scaling objects and cameras through space) they're very similar. Cinema 4D has more robust and, again, more intuitive character animation tools. One specific advantage of Blender's animation tools is the ability to easily simulate fluids (ocean waves, glass of water, etc.). I believe C4D does not provide fluid simulation at all and would require additional software. Another distinct advantage of Blender is its node-based shader system. The system gives you a visual way of creating shaders with complex behaviours, whereas C4D - while still robust - is certainly more limited. They *might* have added a node-based system in the latest version of C4D, however I haven't upgraded yet so I can't say much about that. My recommendation would generally be: go with C4D if you can afford it, otherwise go with Blender. You won't be very limited with either one - the biggest difference is in learning curve. Most importantly: both have a ton of great tutorials right here on KZitem. Also, since Blender is free, why not just download it right now and do some beginner's tutorials? You can see if you like it or not. Also, I do believe Maxon has a demo or trial of C4D you could try as well. :)
