The portable shrine procession ritual
This ritual is derived from the legend of the return of the sacred sword, which takes place on the day after the Eyo-do Shinji. When the sacred sword was returned to the shrine in the first year of the Shucho Era (686), it was said, "Let us leave the capital and go to Atsuta.
The ceremony is also known as the "Shinyakusai," or "Festival of Divine Promise.
On the day of the ceremony, approximately 100 service members dressed in elegant costumes offer and carry sacred treasures in a procession centering on the portable shrine and proceed from the main shrine to the Chinkomon-go (present-day West Gate) via the main approach to perform the ceremony to protect the imperial castle.
