sorry for what? for giving her exposure? for getting paid money/royalties for the use of the sample? You realize that when nicki ninaj sampled this she had to get the ok from maya right? That means that maya made a conscientious decision to allow this song to be sampled. Also this song itself makes use of sampling so I highly doubt that Maya is torn up about allowing this to be sampled. Also this might sound insane to you, but maybe Maya actually appreciates nicki minaj's music. Just a thought, not everyone is as close minded as you.

face it people...for 40+ years hip-hop has been a culture that takes samples of tracks from every genre of music. One more thing, to all the purist who hate the new commercial hip-hop music of today because it all seems to be marketed to kids with the content being about young people partying, glitz/glam, catchy beats and rhymes, JUST REMEMBER, in 1973 hip-hop was started in the recreational center at the bottom of a housing project by young people partying and looping the breakdown or intro drums of disco, rock, soul, jazz and funk records. And all they were doing was HAVING FUN! Bottom line, stop taking music so serious and have fun with it!
@creamyreddred
9 жыл бұрын
I could do that if they music today was fun. It's not. Some of it is good and there are a fuckton of really good artist. Clear Soul Forces, Joey Badass, and yes, Kendrick Lamar, to name a few but they are more underground. The majority of crap that is being played on the airwaves for mass consumption is garbage. Trust me, I used to be a true 90's purist but I realize that there are good artist out here but a lot of this is bullshit. Like this song "Truffle Butter" was cool and I liked it until I looked up what the title actually was. If I was a young kid who looked that up I might that it was straight. It's not. We have to take what we put out there seriously if it's dumb shit like that.

NYCBX3082 Kool herc is Jamaican decadent and raised in Bronx New York. And hip hop first started out as sample beats in the mid 70s, later that decade is when people really started rhyming. And Reggae was heavily inspired by Jazz witch came from New Orleans. No one swagger jacked Jamaican. Those Jamaicans you claim started hip hop were raised in NYC.

Mike GZO reggae and Dancehall music is two genres, different genres. The elements of what DJ Kool Herc thought them is Jamaican culture. Rap battles, how to scratch records, even block parties was new to New York City at is from Jamaican culture. bro Dancehall music and culture, birthed HipHop do some research. Most of New York City slangs is Jamaican slang terminologies. oh ok here’s a question why didn’t HipHop exist before DJ Cool Herc then🤔 and I know Reggae was influenced by Jazz and R&B. But Reggae is not Dancehall. Dancehall music culture existed Decades before HipHop. Kool Herc learn all the elements from Jamaica before he came to the Bronx. rapping on the street corners existed in Jamaica decades before the Bronx.

Maya Jane Coles said on her Facebook "It's interesting to see all of the hateful comments about the Nicki Minaj track. As a producer that only makes music that I love, for me, it's only an honor to have people from completely different scenes wanting to sample one of my productions. I NEVER compromise my own music. If I didn't like it, why would I bother making it. If someone else likes what I have done and wants to sample it and use it in their own style then for me that is a huge compliment. just saying. PLUS also, why do people keep talking about money?? Record sales don't make money anymore!!! This has nothing to do with money, I came from a hip hop background, that's what got me into music in the first place. It's so weird to have to explain myself about something I've always loved doing."

As a House Music Producer I knew it would happen sooner or later as soon as I heard the B3 organ ( Dj Mustard) appeared in hip hop songs and they are wearing it out the same way we did in the 90's. Sampling saved a lot of Soul and R&B artist gave them come backs and upfront Industry Respect. Something most House Producers and especially Singers Didn't get. May some of us will get something out of Hip Hop's new found energy source, don't hate the player hate the game remember we sampled too all you people that can't part with that dusty AKAI S950 or S1000 LOL. Only difference it was shocking then now people get paid when they get sampled either through royalties ( Good Luck Strictly Rythum, EightBall and Nervous own that...) or comebacks. Finally Maya and your people find your check from this.

I was really going to just ignore your comment as I do with all ignorant comments but I feel you really need to be taught some life lessons. CALM YOURSELF DOWN. Nothing on KZitem is that serious. Don't write such hateful and rude comments to people you don't know. I am not on your level and I never said a word directed to you so please don't dismiss my entire comment as meaning something completely, you are not a victim. If you can't decipher my comment and comprehend what I meant, then it no one else's problem but yours. I never said you owed Nicki Minaj anything, I never said more people listen to rap music. But if the artist in question publicly states that the sampling of her song (which has no doubt gained a few more listeners who just happen to be rap fans) is positive then your opinion is invalid.

Helena McGovern I get what you're saying...it's been underground for so long. I've been a house head since the 80's and it'll merge outta the box every few years into mainstream, but not for very long. But I'm glad to see young people appreciate good House Music!!!

this is nice but I like the "truffle butter" instrumental. I like how the beat was slowed down.
