The Tiger started off with the HL210 (=21,000 cc) with 650 hp. That version of the engine was only in service at a few Tigers. After a brief of time they turned that engine into the HL230 (=23,000 cc) with 700 hp by simple tuning it but it remained the same engine. Since the Panther came out later the according engine version was the HL230 already. Towards the end of the war they tuned the HL230 into the HL295 (=29,500 cc) and raised the power from 700 to 1050 hp. Though that version was never in service it would have been appropriate for the Tiger 2 or the Jagdtiger.

@tearsofrageclan4143

The Daimler Benz 605 might have more power but it would break because it wasn't engineered to take the weight of and move the Königstiger. The db605 was designed to be lightweight for aircraft use i.e lightened hollow crankshaft, lightened block, lightened heads, etc..

john rickard somewhat unreliable yes but hardly undrpowered. if anything the Meteor was. 27 liter, 550-650hp. compared to 23 liter, 690 hp. but then again this engine was stuffed into Panthers and later Tigers so all that ''extra'' power pretty much meant.. nothing. almost.
@Arrrbol
7 жыл бұрын
The problem with the HL210 and 230 is there is hardly any room between the cylinders. The engineering is impressive but practically it means they are more prone to overheating. The Meteor was capable of much more but they kept the power low to improve reliability.
