It's not absurd. They produce that amount of money. They "sell" a product, in this case, them as actors/actrisses. And evidently, people want to see them. That is audience for them and for others brands that want visibility. And brands could sell more products if they can visibilice there products in a space where million of persons are seeing that show. If brands are having more sales, they will have to invest more to sustain and increase demand and the brand will need more workers. It's not only being an actor. It's what is behind all that. Mayim Bialik graduated with a PhD in neuroscience but she is not a licensed neuroscientist because she never ventured into the line of work and went back to acting instead. I’m not saying that finishing a PhD in neuroscience is an easy feat (in fact, it is impressive) but you would still have to do some more works AFTER graduation to be taken seriously as a researcher.

Sounds like the guy is saying, (if one can keep up with him lol), that her character wasn't supposed to become permanent. The actress didn't expect to end up written into the script when she auditioned and got the part as "Amy". Does that mean she would have attained work as the scientist she studied for, if the part didn't become permanent? Possibly, who knows... But Lorre and the others saw the great chemistry between her and the other actors, so the character was expanded.
