I got to meet your dad because my father Vern McCarthy was best friends with Stan Kenton. Il'l never forget being on your dads bus while he was warming up. He was playing a huge park outside of Chicago. I was about 11 and it was amazing. Thanks for sharing this behind the scenes video.

There is not one time that I can watch Maynard walk out on stage to 'Blue Birdland' and chills not crawl up my spine. I *can't wait* for this film to be finished - I think I speak for thousands of trumpet players that haven't been the same since Maynard passed!

I just remember watching him in the 70's at Disneyland or Anaheim High school auditorium and just being awestruck. Going home and smashing my horn into my chops trying to hit the notes too, hahahahaha.

A man of immense talent and love 💗 THE BOSS !!! I’ve named my new trumpet after him and I think it’s working as I’m cracking those stupid notes out now even easier than I did a few years ago! First time I have the opportunity to see him live over here in Blighty when Patrick had just joined the band awesome wished I could of seen him live in his hey day but beggars can’t be choosers bill at player god bless him

I saw a picture or Maynard next to Chris Botti and was amused to see their callouses were on opposite sides, but about the same distance from center. "Put it wherever it works" would seem to be the idea, but I think my teacher might be shocked and appalled if I went off and tried that.

Maynard is great! Love his vibrato :) But hey it looks like he plays a little to the right of center! That's great because if he has that sound playing like that then there's hope for someone like me! I play a little left of center. :)

This guy was a true legend and his house looked like a shack. He had more talent in his toenail than any one of these 2-bit pop/rap artists who make enough money to drive a different Bently every day of the week. Something is truly wrong with our society. Sad.
