TOOL is art. TOOL is musical masterpiece of our time. TOOL, whether you believe in God, or a higher power, or have spirituality, is a key to that big picture. The art they create, the experience these 4 human beings give you, is simply beyond normal. Many fans talk about the “third eye” in regards to this band. This “third eye” seems to me as a form of communication between mortal human experience and the pure eternal power above. I am a Christian, but above myself is something so much powerful and full of wonder and love. No matter our opinions. We can agree these 4 human beings bring to light deep connection of musical masterpieces.

It's cool you have such feelings for their music. I don't. I mean I dig Tool but in small doses. The only album I really like is probably Lateralus. With the rest I feel bored after 3 or 4 songs, honestly (I have almost all albums on CDs, I bought them all at once years ago because I wanted to explore their music...I didn't pay much, normal/usual albums on CDs). Tool is not my band, I guess ...but there is a Tool song I really like in particular....Reflection. Btw: I'm not really a fan of such expensive albums Tool are putting out (like with the last one). Many different and expensive versions of the same album...some buy all. Album(s) with also amazing artworks etc. but in the end I feel there is God...but God Money. 💸💸💸 That's how it is...spirituality or not. I mean spirituality must be above money and not so much money related imo. Whatever.

Maynard was my neighbor in Scottville, MI. His father would cut Ash from my trees for fire wood. His father would give me home made bread and his home grown garden veggies. Now I know where Maynard got his farming talents. Maynard talks about his harvesting his grapes like I talk about harvesting my asparagus in Scottville, Mi. I never knew that I was living next to famous neighbors. I bought a bottle of Maynards' Chupacabra Blanca 2018 White table wine. I have not tried it yet. I am waiting for my family, Alexandria, to enjoy it with me. I enjoyed watching the tour of the wine grove and the mobile pizza truck. Alexis Bradow

I felt like this was one of the rare interviews with Maynard where he, actually answers questions with legitimate responses. Throughout his career, 90% of the time, I was always left scratching my head, if not rolling on the floor laughing at his slick but sometimes confusing, other times, comical sarcasm. Like the explanation of what happened to Paz Lenchantin, leaving a perfect circle. Due to her iron deficiency from being vegan, confused, she got on the wrong tour bus with the wrong bald-headed Billy. (APC was touring with Zwan at the time).

I’ve always felt what makes Tool’s music so brilliant is how each album and song is like a journey of evolution. Not just for the band themselves but also us as listeners. Helping us evolve better in body mind and spirit. So to hear Maynard talk about that.. it’s kinda like he’s acting as a translator to the music and guiding us as much as himself along the way. I get the impression Maynard truly doesn't understand his place in the world with regards to Tool's music. specifically the music. I don't know that it's a common occurrence, with "artists" like what's his name (I honestly can't remember) who believes he's the voice of a generation and a musical genius. for me, Tools music isn't "just rock music"; it's been the background to nearly every pivotal moment in my life. from my first time hearing sober as a youth on MTV to seeing them live in 2001 with my father a year before he would pass away. so many successes and failures to their music. each new recording that gets released is like a visit from my best friend and every subsequent time I replay a song it's like revisiting the moments with pictures and memories. so yea... waiting 13 years for a visit from my friends, those 4 guys who've enriched my life for the last almost 30 years. those lyrics that've brought me comfort. that music that got "my head right" to go forth with vigor. and BECAUSE I hold them in such high regard, yea; I get a little testy when it's been awhile. because I miss them. someday our time will end and that in and of itself is beautiful. Tool has been MY band since it became up to me to choose my music. I don't regret that relationship.

I wish I could tell MJK, if you think it's worth YOUR busy time to create new Tool music with lyrics that actually have meaning and purpose, to invest years into, to continue despite some horrible fans, then why is it hard to understand that other humans also see the amazing music there. If it was just Rock then we'd be listening to other bands. Fuck Tool. It's just another Rock band. But no, it's more than that. You have helped people with their lives. There is no guide on how to react or be to people telling you that but it's true. You 5 (including Paul) made a huge impact on people's lives. You created memories and offered the tools for them to change their lives. That's huge. Nobody else did that for us. Not saying it isn't possible elsewhere but we have to give thanks and appreciate the impact you had. And so, people become huge fans. And therefore, once music stops coming out, they wonder and worry if anymore will come out. I'm sure many would've eventually agreed the run was amazing and it could've ended at 10,000 Days but if it could continue, why not wait patiently for more. It already did so much great things for us, more music could only help because we know you wouldn't bother putting shit out at this point. So yeah, it's important enough to have dedicated your careers to it and so it's important enough to us to want to hold this music up so high. It surpasses what I get from other bands. Period. Never found it. I spend hours listening to new music all the time, and have been for years. It's my passion. Not once has a band been on the same level where they continued for decades and never made a single shit record. Not even close. That's hard.

The problem with many Tool fans is that TOOl is the deepest art they've experienced so they kind of over-appraise and over think it. Tool is a great band but you have to have other styles of music and artists and even art in your life. You have to like reading and painting and history and this is the right way to "get" this band. Overthinking and ascribing metaphysical mysteries to their songs is some high school shit. It's there, it's part of the flavour, but the over attention it gets shows that many Tool fans are intellectually insecure and culturally naive.

This seems fairly common with "psychedelic" rock bands, for obvious reasons. I've seen it with Tool, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Yes and a few others. Not so much Primus or Phish since their lyrics are a little more intentionally absurdist, although the personalities in those bands still get their share of misinterpretation. Granted it also happened with guys like Miles Davis, who didn't even have lyrics. Maynard explains it pretty well. It's not about the egos or even the bodies creating the music. It's a signal that in theory anyone can pick up. Everyone can gain access to the inner dimensions that great artists draw from in creation.

I was clueless and thought tool was just "metal" as stupid as i was to think Pink Floyd is for old geezers lamenting about the good old rock days. Tool is rich and complex. enjoy it for its craftmanship, right :)

Ænima and Lateralus. The other albums are great too. This new album on repeat listens for 6 months now will be iconic as well. Liam from the prodigy explained that the best way to know music is not to listen deeply and study the music. Rather, have it on while you are busy doing something else, and then you will know what the best music is. I couldnt agree more. Tool🔧 has been in constant rotation in my life since childhood. Starting around 97. It was obvious to me that maynard was separate from the band with this album.

I believe that if something is great it's always worth the wait and in this case it is especially true I'm very grateful for the music that they put out and that they still get a chance to put out new albums and we still have a chance to listen to them

I think all four of them put the art before themselves. Of course Danny is going like a beast but both guitar players are fairly mellow for being on stage. And Maynard's in the back to in his own thing. They are also one of the few bands that don't do jumbotron close-ups of the band so that nosebleeds can see what they're doing. They put their art on the jumbotrons. Because that's what it's about not them as people.

Yeah, the “sound” seems like a bs excuse. How is it that virtually every other band figured out the technical issues with having the singer front and center? He could just say “Look, I’m not David Lee Roth.” (Which is pretty much what he meant by the “clown” remark). It’s cool, but people go to a show to actually see musicians perform. If I just wanted to hear it, I’d stay at home and listen to it.

MJK and me are the same age but i really think he needs to be a bit more mature towards the fans , I love his work and the bands work but the distance he keeps from fans during live shows doesn't sit well with a lot of fans , the disengagement comes across to some that he doesn't want to be there. I can understand that happening now and again it's every show though. He wouldn't have his vineyard or luxuries without these people forking out their hard earned cash. The least he could do is show a little appreciation now and again ,just by engaging the fans a bit more.

Agreed. He comes across as kind of an asshole who tries to come off as humble. It's almost as if he doesn't recognize that he isn't in his situation just because he worked hard to get there and everyone else could too if they tried, but he was born with the ability of the creativity to be able to create music. Some people are born in a ghetto and in poverty and have shitty lives, etc. And music could be their biggest joy in life. But beyond that, yeah it's not that difficult to just be a little more gracious towards the fans (even if it's just fake). He should recognize that a lot of people idolize him just like some idolize sports stars. And whether or not he understands that sentiment, he can recognize it's a reality so he may as well just do the gratuitous thing. Not very difficult.

Blah blah. Love the band. Believe me. In my eyes they’re the greatest rock band of our time. But I hate when he tries to downplay the fact that it took 13 years and gives the “impatient” fans crap for wanting more. Let’s not forget the fact that it was you guys stringing us along for many years. I can’t count how many times I had heard interviews with the band members and they’d drop “yeah the album is pretty much finished we’re gonna be releasing it later this year”. We’d hear that constantly. And after the first few times the joke just isn’t funny anymore. Now you’re just lying to your fans. And what did we get after 13 years and a mountain of misleading information? 6 songs and a bunch of random interludes. Yeah sure. It’s art. But again....if you follow puscifer, they’re constantly releasing music. So it’s not like he can’t be prolific. He’s even talked in other interviews how you gotta force yourself to finish and force the creative process. Even heard Danny talking how for several years they’d be going in to practice for 4-5 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. Ok...so then what actually took so long? Cuz that just doesn’t make any sense. 🤷♂️
