Fascinating talk. I don't have IBS so wasn't sure if I would listen all the way through but it was full of interest. I think it takes a real expert to present so much information so clearly and succinctly. My biggest takeaway was about the efficacy of consumer stool tests for gut microbiome measurement. Also: "there's always a diagnosis... keep persevering".

Brilliant I wasted a lot of money on Zoe 2 microbiome tests before I wised up and went and got a colonoscopy.

What may have not been addressed in this presentation is the reason for a much higher incidence of IBS in the last 30 years. Are our foods the same? Yes, there is much more processed food being consumed with its many chemicals. Also, glyphosate (the most prevalent herbicide in our farming practices) was originally patented as a antibiotic and causes disbiosis, leaky gut, food sensitivities and autoimmune conditions.

Indeed. Dr. Damianos discusses glyphosate in particular and processed foods during the Q&A of this presentation at the 1hr and 36 minute timestamp.

I look at this as following the ulcer path, people made careers out of stomach surgery even after the actual h-pylori bacteria was found to be the cause. You have some bad bacteria, destroy them and repopulate, repeatedly over and over again until it's cleared out. The industry would rather play around and never get the job done. But there is no incentive to get the job done, it's career ending and ego crushing.
