@zombiefartsaretheworst4693 My point is Colombia is unpredictable. They did it with their visa categories. They changed their visa types more often that any country. I've seen retirees downgraded to M visas. I've seen them not renew visas for no reason. There's no suing the government there. Their rules are always up to interpretation. I've been dealing with Colombia since 2017.

@@NoExcuseENT they simplified them and weeded out the freeloaders and unwanted people, they want to make their country a better place, and theyre doing it. the m visa works towards the resident visa the on to permanent residency, nothing has really changed other than have to qualify rather than just showing up

If rental and Airbnb rules can be changed so quickly, this sounds a risky investment proposition. At best only invest a small percentage of your overall portfolio, unless you have a high risk appetite. The growing disparity between average wage and property/rental prices also doesn't appear sustainable. If social and economic factors can change so quickly being driven through the introduction of new local laws, then these bubbles of property wealth in Medellin may not be built on solid long-term investment foundations. There's a reason why it was reported at the time of the last election that some of the residents with higher financial means moved or at least diversified their assets and relocated to more stable economies in LATAM such as Uruguay etc.

Owning investment property as a foreigner in any country like this is a terrible idea for the very reasons we see unfolding. Randomly enacting laws to seize your investments. Add to that corruption, political instability, poor economy and relatively high crime. Also remember that even if you're able to sell that property, you typically can only take a certain amount of money out of the country at a time (taxes/ fees on the sale is another whole matter).

Hopefully the actions that the mayor is planning against Airbnb won’t have a negative impact on regular travelers to Medellin. So pretty much the mayor is aiming to confiscate Airbnb apartments if it’s proven the owner was negligent or failed to report criminal activity within their units. That’s harsh.. I can see owners generate strict visitor rules for travelers. 750 dollars for authorities follow up on open pending cases? That’s crazy. That’s like requesting transcripts from a past court case in the U.S. Hopefully the alert for Wiseman is upgraded to a red notice. Issuing a blue notice knowing that it doesn’t do much in terms of apprehension of a suspect is the strangest thing, especially when a Colombian local was killed by this man.

This airbnb nonsense has gotten completly out of hand. What the mayor should do is ban the rentals of private homes and only allow rentals where there is a front desk with 24 hour security. The front desk would need to be notified as such and the renter would need to register with the front desk. In addition any visitors to that apartment would need to show a valid identification before being allowed to go to that apartment. Then lets see who can drug and clean out the guy and walk out without worrying about being prosecuted for the crime !

He is not saying what your video title is saying. All around the world exists zoning and the local Government is regulating as should be. In addition I suggest a criminal background should be running to prospect renters just like in USA, because you always talk about Us as victims in Colombia but there are a lot of criminals from US coming to continue their crimes or what they don't do in the USA. You don't mention the speak of the Mayor came after an US predator was caught in Bello.

How would an airbnb owner (Colombian or foreigner) be able to get a criminal background check on a potential renter from another country within the short time frame a renter requests to book a unit?
@muchit3629
7 ай бұрын
@@antoniotula262 Exactly. That is what happens when people use emotions instead of logic to think. The owner of the Airbnb has no interaction with whoever is booking the place. If anything AIrbnb itself should be held accountable for doing background checks on users of their platforms the same way Uber and other ride sharing businesses in the US does background checks on their drivers. Putting the blame on Airbnb investors/owners etc seems like an easy way to rob the little guy.
