I know they will never see this comment, but when Kev and Angel hit briefly on the history of twerking, I almost cried. I am a Dance professor at an HBCU and this past semester we really sat with this in my history course. My PhD dissertation is about the connections we maintain through our traditions, specifically the act of choosing to tap into those connections... this episode made my heart full (and I will be citing it in my document 💯❤)

Slavery in Africa didnt look like slavery in America. They knew they were sending people off for LABOR ( as a trade) but didnt know the conditions they would have to endure. Enslaved people in Africa still had a class, family, and a place in the community. Not saying its right but its not like African people were American slavery-ing. Im sure they wouldnt have done it if they knew what fate their people would face.

All of that to say, I eventually asked, I’m not trying to be mean of hurtful but are you jealous that I have cultural ties to my ancestors that you don’t? When he said yes it put everything into perspective and made me understand and realize just how important having cultural ties to your ancestors can be. I was so heartbroken.
