I've repaired 2 of these by resoldering the circuit board. It seems like the common point of failure is the through-hole connector solder joints. I resoldered the whole board anyways, but the through holes had visible fracturing in the solder joints. Get them off the transmission, the heat and vibration is the problem. The connector pins coming out of the circuit board are long and bent 90 degrees, so they'll vibrate like a tuning fork and eventually the solder joint cracks. All you gotta do is peel off the epoxy at the base of the connector to get at the through-hole pins. Touch them with a soldering iron so all the solder completely re-wets. Use LOTS of flux, then clean it off with alcohol when you're done. Replace epoxy and remount off the transmission

You'd want to get a code reader to see what the problems the car is reporting. If it's the same "U0101" code as in this video, then $2k for the ECU replacement is excessive. If it's a different code, you'll want to look it up and see what others have done to repair it. A lot of times your local auto parts store will read codes for free.

FYI- The transmission is a hot zone and causes the TCM board to get hot and flex causing problems with solder joints on the TCM PCB. You want to put the replaced/fixed TCM on the firewall. Attach it with zip ties to the brake lines on the firewall. Use a pad of rubber in between to isolate the brake lines. I have a 2007 Mazda 3 mounted that way and its still running with the original TCM.

I don't think the year matters as long as you get the TCM for the same transmission. For example 2011 had a 5sp trans and the 2012+ had skyactiv and 6sp trans. So, make sure to get the module for the right trans. In my video you see how the part I bought from the dealer had a newer PN revision than what I took out, but both were for the 5sp trans.

This was happening to me until the exact scenario in this video happened. Did this happen to you and what did you do about it?

@thesillysasquatch1 yes changed the TCM and everything works perfect no lights Even put a use one from the auto wreaker on it because new they wanted 700 dollars This cost me 65 but I had to go there and pull it off the wreaker car and change it with mine

Ive got a 2008 Dodge Nitro that has a TCM issue. Are most tcm plug and play or do they need to be reprogrammed once i buy another one

I'm not familiar with FCA products unfortunately, but this forum thread seems to indicate the TCMs for your vehicle need to be programmed to the VIN. www.nitroforumz.com/threads/dodge-nitro-transmission-help-needed.45409/

Is it necessary to connect that electrical assembly at 9:10 when you putting everything back together ?
@FaRKle0079

You mean putting the wire harness on the post at 9:10? That's not absolutely necessary, but it's how it was designed to be secured.

@@FaRKle0079 yes thats what I was reffering to, because I ended up Zip tieing the tcm on the brake lines under master cylinder , and after putting the battery box and everything back in place I realized I forgot to hook the harness on the post

Great video, thanks. I’ve seen several others where they relocated the new TCM to the firewall or other location away from heat. What are your thoughts on that, please?
@FaRKle0079
Жыл бұрын
It's probably a good idea if you can relocate the module to more favorable ambient conditions. Just have to check that all the wires are secure and there won't be any rubbing gradually wearing them down.

I have this happen on and off , could it still be the tcm ? The problem is when I got this code , it was cleared out so would that affect how it behaves when it’s a tcm ?
