Thank you car-lady Lisa. I like your terminology and I will add "swooshy" to my vocabulary. I live in Newfoundland and Labrador so we have a lot of RDF (Rain, Drizzle & Fog). Before rain sensing wipers (I was using interval wipers ) I frequently found my wipers dragging roughly over dry glass or sweeping too infrequently on wet glass to do the job. Rain sensing wipers fixed all this. Now I don't need to even think about my wipers.

Yeah! I have been trying to figure mine out (after 2.5 years). I find the manual so not user friendly for me who has never had fancy schmancy extras in a car. It is written like someone knows what this stuff is. Playing with all the options, my wipers still don't come on automatically since they did in the carwash at the beginning. I may be clicking one too far down. We get so little rain, it is hard to find the opportunity to test. I am going to look for more of your tutorials...like blue tooth and iPhone connections.

This is great as I didn't realize that it was auto and not intermittent. I prefer the intermitent ones as when it is at low and there isn't any rain well they stop wiping and if you forget to put them in the "Off" position and say go through a car wash, guess what? This could really cause some damage. Not a good thing. And in my mazda, the sensor is checked but no way to highlight it to shut it off.

I have a gen 1 Mazda 3 (2008) grand touring. It has these "rain sensing" wipers and I dont like them. The wipers rarely swipe at the speed I need. Usually they are too slow. Maybe because when it's raining it's also overcast, or night and the lack of light makes it difficult for the Sensor? I dont know, that's just a guess. Turning the sensitivity setting on the dial doesn't seem to do anything and after driving this car for over 10 years I question whether or not it's even plugged in at all! Another issue is: if you leave it on "auto" then it will swipe every time you hit a big bump or pot hole. Due to this issue you end up turning the wipers to "off". Then when it starts raining you have to turn them back to "auto"... see what I'm getting at here? You have to MANUALLY turn automatic wipers on. Sort of defeats the purpose of having automatic-something if you have to turn them on, doesn't it? Last thing: in my state (IL) it is illegal to use your wipers without turning your lights on (safety law?). So if your lights are automatic, and your wipers are automatic... again, see what I'm getting at? The lights should turn on automatically when the wipers do. (And probably stay on for a pre-set amount of time) Maybe the system has been improved in newer models. I sincerely hope it has, however, having an intermittent setting is not THAT big of a deal, and it gives you, the driver, control of a system you should have control of anyway. Just my 2 cents based on my experience with this system. -Thanks!

haha.. 'swooshy'. Mine is a 2013 so i dont have a 'vehicle' settings. Wish i did so i could disable them. They don't work properly, Even on the highest sensitivity setting, it takes a TON of rain for them to finally trigger.
@CarLadyLisa
7 жыл бұрын
There have been cases where the sensor was faulty. It used to be one unit attached to the rearview mirror. In recent models this unit is separate on most models. You can disable them as well. You have 3 functions on your wiper arm (I believe without looking) Auto, Hi and Low. If you simply put it on Hi or Low your sensitivity bar to adjust speed becomes the intermittent setting.

Does anyone know the diff betw the steering wheel auto rain sensing and the check box option in settings on the navigation screen?
@CarLadyLisa
4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you unclick it from the screen, it will default your auto wiper setting on the steering wheel arm to an intermittent function which allows you to adjust how fast the wipers move regardless of the amount of water on the sensor. It basically puts you in full control of your swooshies ;-)
