Touge and RX7 and Tsuchiya are match made in heaven, however I find it even more impressive from engineering point of view that a car as big and streetable as GTR could keep up as well as it did. Benefits of modern Technology..... I really hope they make another rx7.

GTR obviously has more power and the advantage on the straights, as well as 4WD allowing earlier acceleration from the corner exit, but the RX-77 is much lighter and has a lower roll center, so it can carry more speed through the corner. Also, the RX-7 has a big wing, but I'm not sure on the downforce from the body shape on either car.

The GT-R driver did shift the car manually with the paddle shifter. To this drivers, shifting gears is a non-issue really regardless of transmission types but of course the dual clutch gearbox in the GT-R does provide faster shift time compare to a manual.

@danrotolante

it is a dual clutch gear box and is not a auto per say except that it will shift on its own. a normal auto would have a torquare converter but the GTR has just wet clutches in the back. most guys that road race them or modify them use PPG gears. putting a sequential gear box making it rear drive or AWD with driver clutch operated would destroy the car. it can be in and out of gears and engage and disengage the clutch faster then any human operated setup.

Touge races are suited well for lighter cars. It's a key factor that lead the fd to win. I love the fd. The gtr may perform better on track, but this gtr here is still just too heavy and the fd would still beat it in track. Powerful doesn't always mean the fastest.

just a piece of interesting information even tough keichi tsuchiya is known as drift king he's not the very first person to use drift its Takahashi he use drift to preserve high exit speed that leads him to many racing victories keichi become a fan of those technique thats why he practice drift and he introduce drift to the public and rather than a racing technique to exit corner fast. keichi create more angle in his drift spectator finds it pretty and thats how drift became a spectator game
