Hope's spirit is so intense she just has an appearance of childlike innocence. Yet underneath that is a wise grandmother.

Absolutely incredible. I never knew there was actual footage of an interview of them. I remember in the old days when you couldn't find anything on them, even on the internet. I used to look for interviews on any magazine that I could lay my hands on. They were so few, and when I eventually found one, it felt like discovering a hidden treasure.

Commenters who complain about the interviewer don't realize a Mazzy Star interview should best be judged by how successful the interviewer is at getting Hope & David to speak openly. By that measure the interviewer succeeds FAR better than most did in the 1990s. There are near-horrifying '90s Mazzy interviews out there such as where David mainly talks about how he hates interviews, & how unpleasant & pointless they are. Hope once did an un-airable '90s radio interview (pre-recorded, luckily) with radio host David Dye.where she became so non-communicative she was answering questions by nodding her head! Radio silence, folks. This interview's a comparative gem, & preserved on video, no less! I suspect there's some Francophobia behind the complaints, not just over the accent, but resentment he's translating live to his predominantly French Montreal audience. If he's also slightly high strung, so what? So's Hope nervous by nature. She likely empathized with him. Complainers, count your blessings.

Francophobia.... whaaaat hahaha. I don't know french but seems like he wasn't really translating accurately judging by the comments. It didn't seem like a bad interview to me, pretty normal for standards of that time if that's how it was back then I can see why David made that comment :D and why Hope would nod during a radio interview.

After I fell in love with a girl who never really said much, I've become very intrigued by Hope. Both her and Hope are very much alike in thier solemn quiet personalitys. It's the reason why I've become so intrigued by Hope. She is a complete mystery to me. It never occured to me to look for an interview of hers. I just ran into it. My curiousity toward her had me looking. Never knew how she spoke. Yet she's still a complete mystery.

"So, were you born in California?" "Do you still live there?" Yikes. A professional interviewer would have asked, instead, something like, "I understand you're from California...how has being from the west coast of America shaped your sound, or...has it, at all?" Jeez, come on, guy. I agree this guy SUCKS, but at least he was getting them to respond verbally at all!

@alyssa923 just because a song is dark, doesn't mean it has to make you feel sad or dark..."Mary of Silence" probably one of their most dark songs, couldn't sound any more dark and haunting if they tried, and it makes me happy whenever i play it because its a powerful, great ass song!!! I love playing it while driving at night and playing great, dark, intense music while driving at night makes me happy!!!

hope and David both seem like really cool down to earth caring people it's too bad they didn't do more interviews and promote the band more. this interview is fine the only thing that kind of ruins the flow is that he's translating into French or whatever or what to that is I guess it's French every other second. it pretty much ruined the flow
@ThatDevilsBlue

this interviewer has absolutely no idea what he's talking about...it's as if he's labeling "dark music" as bad music, or unorthodox... i can't stand people who hear a dark, morose song and go "wow, this song is so dark and kinda depressing me"...those are the people who are so ignorant that they get everything they listen to off of mainstream radio don't have any concept of what really makes an artist or song good!

"Competitive world for artists" Positive David and Hope only allowed this un-tasteful interview...to allow drive and strength to perfecting their unique sound! Clearly not a career of great choice for Mr.interviewer, or he didn't do his homework. His lack of knowledge in the music industry speaks for itself .. Love You Mazzy!!
