Nicko is a great guy and an amazing drummer. His kind-heartedness and his tasty grooves reminds me of the late but very great drummer, Mick Tucker from Sweet. I have met both of these guys in my lifetime and both are the coolest guys you'd ever wanna meet.

You'll never stop learning. It's the best part of drumming. The less I play the better I get. The more I over cook it the worse I get. Guitarists run out of licks with age where drummers can keep the curve going way into old age.

I was there. He has a double bass pedal because there was an opening band, and that's their drummer's kit, not Nicko's. The bass player is Dave Spitz (ex Black Sabbath, Great White, Gary Moore and more. Also a practicing lawyer). He is also the brother of Dan Spitz from Anthrax. But they don't play together anymore.

In my opinion he can keep regularly beats .The facts is that he does many backbeats that normally a drummer doesn't use also keeping the rhythm, it comes from his jazz past .

He plays ghost notes, because he tries to cover the second part of the origin Black Sabbath song, but it's not a perfect cover. A cover is a cover, and some give their own twist to it, or can't play it perfectly. Of course Nicko could, someone from his level, but this was probably unprepared.

He's the whole reason I play, and does a good job here, funny he was off on the first set of high-hat counts but he's aloud!! HA. Then again NO ONE will ever play it like Bill Ward in 1970...just a staggering mix of Jazz and Rock style drumming back then. Awesome!! Nicko does the McBrain version (style)

Looking at this kit, you would never know this guy was in Iron Maiden. But just another check on the list of what makes Nicko cool.

@huzza09 That's the thing though. Everything you say is 100% correct, but McBrain's technique is also bloody incredible. It's not just fast shit for the sake of it, every hit has a meaning. He's not keeping time, he's making the drums come alive. His technique has meaning. Every thing adds to the song.
