But the benefits are really good…That’s how the government tries to sell low paying jobs. So, you’re right!

Depends, Fire is mostly white due to the fact that whites make up a large portion of the individuals that actively seek out these positions. There are blacks, Latinos, and natives in different areas to a larger degree though, and based off of demographic numbers, this makes sense. Blacks are roughly 12% of the population and in the western United States, not a huge population lives in rural and forested areas, would it be of any surprise they don’t dominate in jobs like this? So to take an objective take on your comment, it doesn’t really have a purpose, there is an active push for diversity and inclusion in the fire industry, yet that only goes as far as the applications who are actively seeking out these opportunities. You can’t make people do jobs, especially just based on an arbitrary set of boxes one can check off on a job application. As long as one is a solid individual and has a solid work ethic, these guys don’t care what color you are, be it in Idaho, Oregon, Northern California, Montana, etc. it’s one of the most inclusive jobs and groups one can find themselves in, so to try and degrade or denigrate what these guys are doing here because of their white skin is both disingenuous and wrong. Go walk a mile in there shoes there amigo, then get back to me.
