February 1974. I was 17, now 64. John Denver was the love of my life. I was graduating high school that year. This was my favorite TV show. I loved horses but lived in the city. I loved John Denver too. I'm 53, and grew up in Virginia, and we sang all of the folk songs in the school auditorium, especially the popular John Denver songs! "Country Roads", "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", and others. Plus, I liked him when he starred in that movie with George Burns called, "Oh God". Did you see that? Yeah, I was very surprised when I heard about his death. Sad too. We took it for granted, thinking that he would always be here. So try to appreciate those you love, while they're still here, because we never know what tomorrow holds.

I was a teenager when this programme came on British t.v. I'd not long discovered John Denver as a Singer...he had hits over here with 'Calypso' and 'Annies Song'(?)..so I was surprised to see him as an Actor in this. My Mother confessed she had a crush on Dennis Weaver....and as it was a few months before her 40th birthday and being 'skint'(broke) I wrote to his fan club requesting a signed picture for her.I had no post for quite some time so thought ID be dissappointed...however...the day before her birthday she received an unexpected envelope with U.S.A. stamps...containing a signed photo with a personal message n greeting. I thought " what a gentleman!". My Mother had a happy grin on her face f days n had his picture up on the wall f years! I liked him in the "unscripted" movie where he's in a car being persued by an 'unknown' lorry (truck) driver! Cant remember the name of the film (frustrating!)...but I thought it was a brilliantly put together example of how to use camera and sound effects to build drama, suspence and tension. At that time...technically directed excellently. Getting back to this series though....I thought the characters/acters were great and the stories were varied n interesting.A total escape from the everyday British lifestyle!

McCould is originally 75 minutes. This version is 69.5 minutes, so obviously taped from recent TV. All the great 60s & 70s shows are chopped down to make room for more commercials. Watching it... the plot is rushed b/c of the chopped out scenes. Still, better than anything on TV today.

I don't know where this was filmed, but both Dennis Weaver and John Denver had connections to Colorado. Weaver had a home called "earthship" built there and was an avid supporter of ecology.

I watched the Sunday Night Mystery when new, and I recall this ep. I was 13 when this ep was made. John Denver was good in this, he should have been in other such shows. Claude Akins was always good in movies and shows, too.

I remember this episode when new.Myself and my family never missed the Sunday Night Mystery Movie.Alot of famous tv stars guest starred on these eps.John Denver sure looks young. I liked the theme music of McCloud, and preferred him over Columbo and McMillan.Hec Ramsey was also a part of it, but he was only on one season. It was like a western, took place during 1900.McCloud had some funny scenes, his boss would bitch at him alot.Remember when 1970's detective shows had that jazzy muzak in the background? Current detective shows have no background music that I know of, and I don't include Miami Vice...that was a different type of crime drama with current hits.I liked the music and intro of the Sunday Night Mystery movie, with that flashlight and whistling sounding music.Good times!

On the Brady Bunch, they had a little cousin for a few episodes who looked exactly like John Denver.

My family use to love the Mystery Movie. McCloud, Colombo, and McMillan and Beard. At 12 I wanted to be McCloud and show McMillan's wife what a real man was like 😎

Banacek was good until you realized there were only two solutions for every mystery: either whatever was missing was never there in the first place or it’s been there all along.
