Strange how the lower grade kerosene now costs much more than gasoline.
@karlfischer1011

The lower grades of fuel now costing more, I think I have an answer. The modern method of refining gasoline is very efficient at creating gasoline, leaving less fractions behind for traditional kerosene and other mid grade fuels. Throw in some economics and government market magic and you get cheap gas and expensive other low demand high polluting fuels...🧮

Hello; When I was about 5 maybe 6 my Dad had just moved us to a new home with a BIG back yard. It was low and He wanted to raise it up so He had free fill brought in and acquired a tractor I think was one of those. He tied a steel beam on the back and had my older brother drive that tractor all around the yard dragging that beam while He was working. Well needless to say the yard got leveled to the joy of my brother. When the job was done we took to my uncles who lived about 5 miles away on the other side of town. His plan was to tow the tractor with His truck and we got about 1/2 the way when the truck overheated and my brother had to tow the truck the rest of the way. It had those steel cleats and I'm sure it was quite a sight. Thanks for the flash back.

What a solid brute of a tractor. I bet some farmer in its day made one solid living off the work this machine was able to provide and loved it enough to take excellent care of it. Tractors like this did not survive if they were not loved and appreciated. Excellent walk around Squatch.

Excellent video the steam whistle was a nice accent to the walk around video . That is a really neat tractor there it was built at the tail end of the unstyled international tractors . The next models that replaced it would be a W 9 gas or WD 9 diesel tractor that is sort of strange to see a right foot operated foot clutch. Keep up the great videos Toby

As a personal note of interest (maybe) to you, I had a 1944 International (M2 I'm told) 1 ton army truck with a Green Diamond engine. ' Green Diamond' was cast into the block. I never knew the displacement except that it was in cubic inches and NOT liters 😁. It ad a full crash box 4 speed and a divorced 2 speed transfer case. No cab, just a firewall and dash. Full instrument cluster (oil pressure and engine temp). That engine would start on the first or second rev, every time. What a beaut, Clark... er, ah Toby.

Very cool tractor, they did a good job restoring it. We have a Twin City 21-32 that was a similar setup. Start on gas, run on "power fuel". Via my great uncle (and he may have been talking about something else), the Twin City used to have a "heater box" to help get the kerosene hot, and keep it hot. I didn't see anything like that on this McCormick. Not sure if it would have ever had one; or if it did, would it have been removed? Maybe I'm just imaging things. In any case, good video, nice tractor.

I believe they ran better on ethanol. Farmers could grow their own fuel that was very appealing. Kerosene has a very low octane rating, ethanol is very high. Would give you more low end torque.
