@thebloodyenglish6620
2 ай бұрын
@@yootaobe5536 to be fair there's also the argument that certain jobs should be minimum wage like a general McDonald's worker. Obviously manager's and other workers in McDonald's store's that gave valuable skills should be paid more but working as a general crew member doing the customer service, cleaning, basic level food prep & organising etc is a job with minimal skills (you still have to have skills for the job just minimal skills) so I think it's reasonable to pay minimum wage. Again I'm talking about these basic jobs like working in a low quality food establishment focused on convenience (obviously it's different if you're working in an actual restaurant). Could even say it's unreasonable for such jobs to be above minimum wage as really the main target worker is young people getting their foot into the work force and should be treated as a stepping stone. With it being minimal wage it encourages people to work harder and develop skills for proper jobs. I started off as a construction labourer on minimum as a kid, then trained to be a skilled tradesman (Stone Mason), had to leave that due to an injury and decided to try and be an ecologist as I thought thats what I wanted, succeeded and became one, realised that wasn't for me so restarted as a basic convient store employee, then promoted to supervisor and then assistant manager. It paid ok but wanted more money so left and have been bouncing around different career's since (like Security, fibre optics etc) and have reached a point I'm comfortable with. If you run around throwing too much money at people for working low skill jobs there aren't incentives for them to improve and paying them too much also makes goods too expensive and more then what they're worth (these places like McDonald's $store etc have small profit margins). People think when they see a business doing what McDonald's is doing in this video "see they can afford it they were just being greedy".... Sometimes maybe but most of the times no it's actually shows they're in a bad situation. As what they're doing is sacrificing profit in the short term during a time when they still have the resources to be able to afford to do so with the hope of re establishing themselves in customer's minds and routines so they can creep up prices later to reclaim lost profit and is needed for long term survival. It's a way of trying to prevent themselves from having to go out of business/having to significantly reduce store locations. All of that said how much the minimum wage should be is certainly an important discussion. I think it should be enough to live comfortably (have a roof over head, electricity, water & internet, health care, transport and cover clothes & food etc so while you might not be getting anything fancy you got clothes and don't need to go hungry but need to be smart with money.) People often forget "should people be paid minimum wage" and "what should minimum wage be" are different topics.

What do they expect? Prices have more than doubled and the food is garbage.

They stopped putting all that salt in the food and what was left tasted like cardboard. Bad times.

I remember a few years ago I saw a customer. He was quite obviously poor, but not homeless or destitute. Probably works as a driver or a garbageman. He brought his kids in with him to McDonalds and it was genuinely a treat for them. An event. I got the sense this was equivalent to them going to an amusement park. How times have fallen. Remember when it was meant to be affordable fast-food? Just barely more expensive than getting food from home? They had more people working for each meal then. Now it's almost all automated. How has it gotten worse economically worse?

I get your message and agree; it used to be a *TREAT*; now it's Tuesday supper. However, those two positions you mentioned pay well; this man may have genuinely been 'poor'; part of the *WORKING-CLASS POOR,* as, (forgive me, I mean no rudeness), you may have been if you were working at the restaurant? 🫂❤

@@koda3967 I’m from a country without a minimum wage. So it’s possible he was paid very poorly. I didn’t mean chauffeur. I meant delivery driver. It definitely felt like it. He was taking pictures of the kids enjoying the meal and stuff. It’s also possible maybe it was his weekend with the kids. But yeah it definitely felt like a celebration. I wasn’t working there. I was a customer which made me feel terrible. That something that is common for me was a treat for them. Like I was taking the meal for granted. Nonetheless. It used to be cheap enough for an everyday meal, back when McDonald’s was launched. Have McDonald’s for lunch instead of bringing it from home. It’s cheap and made in 5 minutes. That was their whole advertising strategy. But now it’s Tuesday supper. Or like, for that family, a once in a year, once a month meal

They're just as expensive as most of the other fast food places these days.

Ikr! Like most "fast food" is so overpriced these days it's a joke. 😂 They taste boring or nothing special, at least with Macca's you know what you're getting 😆 I think they're just following their competition in terms of price hikes. Unsure if the prices will go down.

I haven't eaten fast food for 2 years. Thanks to the high prices, I am saving money and getting healthier.

I used to work near a McDonald's and ate it a few times a week out of necessity. I didn't realize how sick it was making me. I haven't been in well over a year and I can't tell you how good I feel. Absurd prices for food that isn't food.
