I think it's kinda funny he duped everyone with a waterhose in his backyard BUT I think he should be called out for all his abusive behavior. Here is an idea for you: A lot of the stuff he claims to have likely isn't within the code of the area he lives in, so call code enforcement and have them go check it out. He will have to let them see. Then it will either be publicly available information, or if it isn't immediately, you can do a records request and make it public info. That would be 100% proof there's no haunted house.

@@Sp00kyQueen Anyone can call and make a report, but it doesn't mean they will A) take it seriously, or B) actually go out and inspect. Given Russ is so well known online, he's probably pretty well known in the community. It could be he's seen as a quack, or the inverse and people respect him. Who knows? But both outcomes could mean that the code enforcement peeps may already know he's a sham or refuse to do anything. And even if they go? Depending on state, county, and city policy they may not even have to make anything specific public if nothing is found. The website or paperwork may well just say, "Inspection on XYZ Date: No violations found." It could mean he has 1000 rats in perfect conditions and no violations exist, or that there are 0 rats and therefore no animal care violations can exist. So for this to work, it has to pass multiple failure points- 1) The agency actually inspects the property. 2) The agency does not lie in the paperwork. 3) The agency is legally obligated to either publish or provide full, detailed reports. 4) There is actually enough information to make an accurate estimation of truth. That all isn't to say this is a bad idea. This is, in fact, one of the cheaper, simpler, and likely to be effective answers to everything that has a good potential to actually work. The other answers are usually more complicated, or far more expensive. A class action lawsuit for either fraud or illegal contracts is a much more expensive and difficult path, but also the most likely to end in absolute truth being known. The contracts they sign are, almost certainly, complete rubbish and would crumble in court. I have only a beginner level of law, and I can see this much. And as a "high liability" business owner, let me tell ya first hand a waiver is not nearly as ironclad as most think. And his vastly oversteps everything, and is badly written. This isn't even getting into that courts require evidence. He'd either need to show that, yes, the haunted house exists and he isn't lying through his teeth(Or that his waiver is reasonable and accurate to the risks), or he's a slam dunk for fraud.

Russ cannot use an insanity plea. The lengths he has gone to in an effort to make sure what he's doing is "legal," and all the threats against people who want to speak out, scream that he's of sound mind. As sound as his can be, anyways lol. Those things aside, he's been doing this for many years and has managed to work and maintain a home while he's done it. Russ isn't a mentally healthy or well adjusted person, but he is legally sane lol

Yeah, I first remember seeing his KZitem videos in like 2013 iirc, back when he actually was beating the living hell out of people with a band of teenagers and collage students he'd recruited as his haunt actors. You can hardly plead insanity for something you've been lucidly doing for over a decade. He's mentally ill but not able to plead out with insanity. It's also just not as if he hasn't been investigated by the cops or that nobody's had the idea that he should go to prison before. He genuinely did used to run a really messed up haunt in another state, idk if teeth were ever pulled, but there was at one point a real manor. He basically had to flee that state a number of years ago, because the media got too fixated on him for him to continue. Dude has been doing this for over a decade, and every October the media peddles out "look at this extreme haunted house!" for Halloween. Eventually the heat got too much, and he had to abandon the real manor. That has led him to what you see now. Just him, a bunch of feral toothless Facebook hicks, and that creepy Cecil dude who films for him and seems like he messes around with horses in his spare time. To plead insanity, he'd have to prove without a doubt that he's incompetent to stand trial. Incompetency means like you are pooping in your hand and throwing it and unable to understand or respond to questions. This guy will not be deemed incompetent ever, no matter how competent his lawyers are. You really have to be crazy-crazy to be deemed incompetant.

When I first heard about this guy I looked up whether he had a history of being abusive (I thought he could be a serial killer). I think I found out he had an a girlfriend he tested his torture on for the manor. She’s not his girlfriend anymore. I remember a video of her wearing a device on her head and he was drowning her. It was very much a horrible abusive fetish for Russ for years, many people were hurt and still deal with the trauma. I learned about this from the Netflix documentary. There was one scene where he manipulated his neighbor to trying it and she had a extreme mental breakdown and was so freaked out that she tried to take an axe and use it on her torturer to get out. Than in another scene they tease her to get her to try it again. I felt so bad for her and it kind of made me hate the guys whom were running it.

I think it's simpler. Basically there's a lot of people who feel like they've sort of done the haunted house thing, or the endurance event, whatever, and this seems like a combination of both turned up to 11, so whatever you have to suffer, it's all going to be worth the experience at the end, which is his most effective marketing hook. Plus rational people would think yeah he isn't going to harm me that bad, other people have done this so if it was truly dangerous he wouldn't be allowed to run it. Basically people assume, erroneously, that someone rational is overseeing it all when really it is just this one crazy sadist doing all of it.

Have y'all seen the video of Russ forcing his then girlfriend to go through the maze cage though? From the very beginning, she's blindfolded and she has has begging him not to make her do it and he repeatedly ignored her expressing that she was not consenting. He just laughed the whole time and sprayed her in the face with a hose directly after she begged him not to and said "you know i don't like the water, please" She's spoken out about him since she left, but I have no idea how police reports against him haven't gone anywhere The video is easy to find, there's no reason that shouldn't be enough to have him charged

There is a documented science around positive/affirming statements having 10x the power over negative/deterring statements and how the brain registers them. So even tho Russ says "You Really Don't Want To Do This" the brain hears "You REALLY WANT TO DO This" The affirming words in that statement outnumber the negative One, so the reverse psychology is definitely there. Russ stopped taking my phone calls but I'm hoping he still lets me in at some point...
