Being a twin clutch system, where odd set of gears (1-3-5) and even set of gears (2-4-6) are operated by separate clutches, it seems the car wouldn't shift into odd set of gears (they did not elaborate whether it's a computer fault or mechanical fault). They also mentioned that 5000km of circuit racing could be the limit for the transmission on the first batch of GT-R.

Gtrs till 2011 have gearbox issue. You need to mod them to keep them reliable. From 2011 and up Nissan fixed the issue.

Nissan's target for the R35 was the 911 Turbo. Not the RX-7, 3000GT, and Supra, which it was intended to competed against. The R34 was pretty much an improved R32 and Nissan knows it is not competitive enough after 15 years, without doing major modifications. A new model had to follow. The GTR continues the ultimate technology that it followed. You guys do know that the R32 is not the first Skyline GTR. The generations before it didn't even have fancy electronics or AWD.

mine's r34 i still think bests r35 in a simular sensible tune. will take till 2012 atleast before R35 really gets tuned hard. Skyline got MAAAD in 2005 (GT-R R34) and topped in 2006 2007, and after that its pretty much been the same. a R34 is a piece of art, and will probably forever be a icon of low displacement power. first very advanced AWD system capable of handling 800bhp properly.

The last guy is correct. The R35 does not share the standard Skyline platform anymore. That chassis is outdated anyways. Nissan wanted to bring the level of the GTR further to compete against higher end cars.
Hmm. I've always loved the R32. Of course in stock form the R33 is quicker, just as the R34 is quicker than the R33, and the R35 quicker than all of them - it's a progression in technology over time. However, when it comes to tuning the cars and actually racing it's interesting that the fastest GTRs in the UK Time Attack series for the last 3 years have all been R32s.

The odd gears of R35 happend to be unable to shift. But the two drivers says that the R35 is overwhelmingly faster.

R SAN GO (R35) was meant to be a better car than R SAN YON (R34). But I would love to have an R SAN SAN (R33) over a R SAN NI (R32) and R SAN YON, simply because it's longer and bigger than both of them, although its boot is the most narrow of the 3 skylines. R SAN SAN is the best for wide body kits. R SAN NI has the widest boot, and R SAN YON is between the two. if you look the math of the 3 skylines R SAN YON's wheel base is exactly between R SAN NI (shortest) and R SAN SAN (longest).

and no i don't mean the R35 is based off of the 350z, Nissan even stated that the GTR's design was inspired by gundam robots rofl, and that they needed this car to define JAPAN and not copy Eurosupercars. The r34 however did take the Corvette lights, and it's body design was taken from the m3.

Yep I owned a wine red R32 GTR that with very minor mods was pushing 400bhp. It was running R34 ballbearing turbos so had minimal turbo lag. Great fun but a shame I had to sell it

I wish Nissan had derived more of the R35's looks from the R34. I think the tail end is perfect, but on the front they should've done a closer variation of the R34's rectangular headlights instead of the G35-looking ones. They just look meaner.

honestly the the new gtr is fun i was jealous of my old man when he drove one back from targa in tassie but the ew gtr is not a skyline the format for it is just so different from the rest all the skylines before were built on the rb engines plus the difference from the 34 too the gtr is massive still fun cars too drive though i guess thats why i sold my supra and got a 34

The r35 engine has a better flowing head, and more displacement. So the r35 engine is a better engine. The R35 has a GR6 dual clutch box that unless you abuse it excessively will hold 550hp. Drop a bit of weight and maintain the factory weight balance, it will run with the best at any track. And out of the box it can beat any other nissan except the r390 gt1 and the ztune and the 400r. And for 70k its an absolute bargain. That being said I would take an r34 over it anytime. The r34 has a soul

Even if the transmission was fine, the Gt-R would still get killed by an R34 in my opinion. They didn't make r35 right. Actually, no car maker makes the good cars anymore, the real cars. The kind that could smoke the Italian cars if you put a few grands onto it. The supras, the FD's, the ae86, the r32, r33, r34, 2000gt, etc. wouldn't it be amazing if Nissan brought the entire line back? Starting from the 200gt all the way to r35? It'd be nice, but it's a pretty darn big dream.

The double clutch is not reliable enough with an engine so torquy! Why did Porsche have waited so long before putting it on the Turbo?? Ummh and I'm still in love with the R34....(but not at all with the R35!)

new tech always has problems with reliability,as you can see in the video the r35 transmission failed.I was also watching a race with some exotics the lamborchini lp640 was leading till the transmission failed.the automatic clutches might shift faster but they are not as reliable as a manual clutch.

@Road2Perfection uhhh you say 2012 is when we'll see heavily tuned R35s? Just to let you know, this last December, AMS put down 1,118awhp in the preliminary dyno session for their Alpha 12 package. The Alpha 9 makes 900bhp on all oem parts with stock reliability, and runs under a 10 sec. quarter. Hell, Switzer's P800 alone gave the Veyron a run for its money in the mile race. Well, you can consider the above GTR's "mildly" tuned if you want lol. There is so much ahead for this car.

The GT-R R35... IS MASSIVE... and thats saying a lot.. since the R33 and the R34 are already REALLY BIG... they shouldve made something as small as the R32 and with an engine that sounds nice and revs to 8000-9000rpm not just 7000

I really think Nissan should rename the Skyline GTR R35 to something else, like Skywalker GTR or Skydiver GTR :) . And keep the sharp shape of the Skyline GTR R34 for the GTR R35. The R35 is just way too different than the R34. I know the automatic of the R35 is really responsive, but real racer never want automatic. (rich people like automatic sport car)

i like r34 better with RB26DETT i only like the Spec-v version of r35. skyline r34 is a popular car used in the movie 2 fast 2 furious with c-west bodykit. and i like dat one, and dat's where i start to like r34 than r35. but r35 is good. :)

@tompenno I can see where you're coming from with that one, but with that said -- It gives the car that rare and unique quality that it has always had. That 'forbidden' fruit kinda feel. Lol. It's one of those cars where it's like: "Man I want one so bad, but man I can't afford it." but it's always been that way for me - with all the models lol. FML. But again everytime I see one on the road I always grin.

The world has to understand that the first two to three years for the R35 are going to be basically research and development. Tuners are collecting major data on the GTR's capabilities and then will decide the best way to extract reliable HP. The mighty R34 didnt dominate motor sports until they discovered how to get the most out of it. Same thing will happen with the R35.
... Why was the R34 only revving up to 8 when he clearly still had at least 1500 more revs, if not more? Was he self-handicapping?

the trani is gone, so much power on that trani blows it up. thats why it stopped working when he tried to shift down it reved up the engine till 8000RPM!!! so he did good when he stopped.

I think it should be run again. with some one younger in the r34 with the teeth and balls to push it to the limits instead of playing it safe and losing to the boss on purpose. Who leaves a door that open on an exit? Really.
